US GQ April/May 2023 : Global Creativity Awards

What is the point of GQ (U.S.) anymore? Who is the reader? I think they are creating a magazine for someone that doesn't exist. It's like a chaotic mess of perceived social media buzz mashed together in their pathetically thin issues.

Will Welch has been a clout-chaser ever since he started editing GQ Style. The magazine has zero identity and is a shadow of its former self.

GQ under Jim Nelson/Jim Moore may look very same-y, but it’s immediately recognizable and has a consistent look. Plus, their stories are worth reading (and worthy of the accolades).

I mean, compare this with its rival. Esquire reminds me a lot to Details now. This GQ pulled out all the fashion and sensuality from its imagery. Looks so dry and boring. Only like it when they call George Cortina for the edition. Something is happening at Hearst because their magazines started to shadow all the CN titles. The same is happening with American ELLE over Vogue. Vanity Fair it's the only one safe here.

When GQ went all-celeb for their fashion pages (not just the cover), Details stuck to their guns with models, and it paid off. Out of all the monthly men's fashion magazines, Details is definitely up there in terms of the quality of its fashion coverage. I can't believe it's been almost eight years since Condé Nast folded the title and subbed the abysmal GQ Style.

This is getting worse, even a month later; Karol G's cover is the one as main in the digital version of GQ Spain on Pressreader.
