Oh God, more athletes! What's the point of giving this magazine it's own thread?

Such a snoozefest cover. I'm not familiar with American Football and its athletes so I have zero interest to gey a copy of this month issue.

This magazine should not get his own thread unless it's a model on their cover

Nice to see Russell Westbrook getting some shine on his own! He's a HUGE basketball player here in the US and his fashion sense is questionable, but he's fashion. So seeing him getting a cover is not surprising.

Russell Westbrook follows fashion more than arguably any actor that they would put on the cover during the rest of the year so his presence makes sense. He is very active in fashion, has had a whole collection with Barneys, his own Byredo fragrance, is at the shows each season and even though his style isn't always my cup of tea he counts as someone who influences trends.

No he isn't a model, but he is a huge star within this market where basketball is a big deal. His name is known by the men who read GQ so when it comes to picking a star who will resonate with their target demographic AND knows a thing or two about fashion they've succeeded admirably by having Westbrook on the front page.

This GQ spread should be a wake-up call for Mr Westbrook. He should only wear Tom Ford.
The stylist who made him wear those awful distressed jeans should be fired. Too tight and beyond Tacky!

you can see he's holding a basketball lol :pink:

^ Plus it says NBA style starring cover athlete lol. TBH I have zero clue who he is though and it wouldn't make me buy the issue. Too bad Details went out of business, they seemed better from what I saw here on TFS.

Why the US GQ always put basketball player on the cover, have no interest in buying.

They have athletic bodies and unlike so many celebs or others, they have a real interest in fashion.
We can love or hate it but unlike many actors or singers, many basketball players and some NFL players too have a personal style and buying designers clothes.
They live the GQ lifestyle: great houses, great cars & (sometimes) great style.

I think that at least 50% of the NBA stars owns Saint Laurent jackets & jeans and Tom Ford suits.

They can teach one thing or two to a lot of european athletes.

I hope one day Hidetoshi Nakata will score a GQ cover. He is the best dressed athlete ever IMO.

Mens magazines in general differs from the female variety in the sense that the majority of their readers hardly ever buy into the 'fashion' prowess of a coverstar, but more the actual celebrity. So all this talk of how fashionable this guy or any other athlete is goes right over my head, and will most likely for the guy on the street as well. All will ultimately boil down to how good he looks and whether he's in fact accessible.

Maybe you're right but I still can't stand a men's fashion magazine without real models from editoral to cover.

Plus, I'm with you about Hidetoshi Nakata is the best dressed athlete, if he's on the cover of GQ or others, I'm 100% OK with that.
