US GQ Summer 2023 : Ryan Gosling by Gregory Harris

Yes! George Cortina. The only GQ covers worthy to buy.

^He's wearing some kind of pink coat and blue jeans.

Better version is the UK one, with less text (not the creepy Verderi-sh text on the American). Great pair for Margot's Vogue:

I just wish they would go the camp route, at least would be different

Meh, I don’t like this. Toxic masculinity not allowing them to keep it playful and Barbie-ish. Let's portray a dirty, strong and straight man figure instead. Next, please.
Quite disagree. I like "menly" portraits a lot. It's an aesthetic like any other. I don't see violence or straight up homophobia or hate on woman. There were hundreds of offensive shots in fashion history, but this is far from that. And it's rare to see men being sexy on GQ, comparing with the mess from last months. I agree we should be more open about aesthetic for men and women, but I see with bad eyes pointing masculinity and femininity as something terrible (without any offensive subtext, I mean girls arround in bikini or the wife of the year, for example). I like portraits of strong men as soft ones too and same case with delicate women as hard. This editorial has the combo, I see a men posing rough but also I spot sensitivity, emotion, in the expression and the clothes.

It's a boring cover, boring and uninspired styling on the cover. Some shots in the edit are good but it doesn't sell me a complete story.
They had that ONE CHANCE to make a campy / fun / Ken-ish coverstory and they blew it.
A pink coat doesn't do it y'all.

To be honest I find this quite grimey, he looks like he just had a roll in the sand.
I'm not sure if there's a market for a rugged Ryan Gosling.

I’m kind of sad they didn’t lean more into the Ken vibe.

Not with George Cotina in charge of styling. He doesn't have the imagination to pull off anything other than tees and denim. This is actually where Luke Day would have been better suited.

He’s Bruno Gehard’s butch bro. It’s a tad camp.

Yeah... I was gonna say, this is definitely leaning into camp.

Favorite thing American GQ has done in a long while… years? Some of the shots are beautiful enough to work well regardless of any irony or pop-culture context, but the styling (and hair) give this a humorous edge. Extremely gay. Butch Ken. I love it.

These would have been better options for the cover though.

I disagree again, since when the cover story should be literal to the project they're selling? I can't believe I'm defending Will Welch in this one, hahaha, and I'm one of the guys that want him out of GQ faster than the speed of light, but I really like what he did this time. I'm not mad because it's not camp (thanks Anna Wintour for making that term famous, tired of reading it en every post since 2019). Is not that different than the praised Pedro Pascal cover story for Esquire. Also I'm excited because it's the first time I see Vogue and GQ promoting the same project. I buy both in pairs since forever (locals, of course), but this is the perfect match. I like Margot being literal with her cover, but also I like Ryan doing something different. Cover stars being literal with their movies is not seeing so often, so I don't get that new rule. I won't dump this because to me it looks so good, it's a great work. A miracle for American GQ.

The Jim Nelson-Jim Moore era of GQ would have been all over that. Will Welch's GQ on the other hand....

Wish they did a shirtless shot....damn....

Im glad they didn't do the Ken way but if they did Mert and Marcus were more suitable...i think that it's not GQ...and least not the US.

If we are lucky, we can get maybe for W or V or any other mag...
