US InStyle February 2022 : Gal Gadot by Giampaolo Sgura

The cover is bad & the editorial looks so basic. I don't know why every issue of US InStyle includes the layout "Badass Women", if the cover story doesn't reflects that.

Gal Gadot is one of the most beautiful women in the world, but I don't think I've ever seen a magazine cover/editorial that's done her justice.
It doesn't help here, that her photographer is a basic hack, but still, this is awful.

Angela Bassett is another great beauty, but here she looks hard, and kind of scary.

Actresses can be far more telegenic than they are photogenic, which seems entirely natural to me.

Speaking generally, ever since actresses started taking centre stage on the front of US Vogue, there's been greater expectation that every actress should be able to seamlessly step into the role of a fashion model, which might be a realistic expectation if modelling was your first career, but in other ways, it makes as much sense as thinking every fashion model can become an A-list actress. These things can be achieved, but not by everyone.
I'm not putting that expectation on her. Actually it's the opposite, I think she'd look really good in her editorials if she weren't treated like a model. She's beautiful already, she doesn't need to pull off every look under the sun! She and Lily Collins are striking me the same way lately-- they're both naturally beautiful women, but the more you style them outside of their normal look, the more it seems to detract from their beauty. Get rid of the stupid hair (who needs to see Lily in a short bleach blonde wig? no one), the weird makeup, and let them look GOOD. Glamour is always a plus, but why put so much effort into looking worse just for the sake of looking different? If these actresses absolutely must be ~ transformed ~ in order to be in magazines, it would be nice if the stylists had a real vision for these women as individuals and didn't just slap an ugly wig on them.
