How purely decadent gorgeous this would have made for the cover. But I get it— 80s American Vogue covers were only about the close-up.

(Quick Anna; Get one of your lessers to immediately copy this for the September issue!)

Definitely would have been a great cover for now! They had a term for the close-up covers, but I can't remember what it is.

Just cast Imaan wearing faux-fur Balenciaga or SL and book Meisel/I&V/Luigi & Iango and they’ll bring the same electricity to a September issue again, as this shot still does nearly half a century later.

If there’s one everlasting signature of American Vogue in the 80s that’s worthy of resurrecting, it was this easygoing, fun, and action-filled sensibility that took out the stuffiness, seriousness and overall preciousness that fashion can be so annoyingly serious about. I don’t want to see messy clowns in messy clownwear shot by clowns-- like this era’s American Vogue sensibility. But gorgeous people in gorgeous designs, photographed gorgeously, and enjoying, having fun with all the gorgeousness seems such an alien concept these days.

(BTW, OMG @Michael Schoeffling in the Umberto Ginocchietti campaign...)
