The Stella story on paper is so plain and bland. And it really shouldn’t be as good as it is, but the talents of Peter and Grace, along with the regal stature of Stella, just brings it from the ordinary shoot ageainst a grey seamless to the sublime and aspirational, and full of painterly goodness.

It was so great that Ms Wintour kept the tradition of filling December issues with Penn’s works in the 90s the way Mrs Vreeland did in the 60s and 70s. It’s such a pleasure every time to (finally) get my copy of vintage 90s issues of Vogue purchased on eBay. It’s magic, pure magic to hold that magazines, turning pages and see all those magnificent images by Meisel, Lindbergh, Mario, etc. and see those fabulous models of that great era.
