US Vogue July 1980 : Nancy Donahue by Richard Avedon

Having looked through our forum I realized we already have 6 of the American Vogues from 1980. And now, lets add that glorious July issue which contains Scavullo's favourite photograph - that of Gia rolling in the water with a guy.

The issue has Nancy Donahue on the cover, photographed by Avedon. Janice by Avedon, the only shot of Gia by Penn that I know of, Gia by Scavullo and then some Piel and Stember. Scanned by me.

The cover looks pretty dirty and believe me...it was even dirtier...

lovely!!!! I got that issue too. The pic by elgort of gia in the water is one of my all time favourites.

I also adore this issue...it's on my top ten list of American Vogue issues I think.

Ok, just Gia pix to go! First one by Irving Penn - is this the only one of their shots together that was ever published. It's a pity because this shot shows that rare serene quality she had. Before it turned so painful you couldn't look at it (I'm talking those last German Vogue shots).

Swim your self in shape - it sure looks like fun. I can understand how this photoshoot became one of Scavullo's favourites. It must have contained hundreds of great shots. Scanned by me.

fantastic issue. janice's and gia's editorial are great, they both are looking beyond gorgeous; and i love those two pictures of debbie harry that's what i call great issue: gia, janice and debbie in only one mag

No matter how many times I look at Gia, I am always blown away by her beauty. In my opinion, she was THE most beautiful woman ever. I love other girls, celebs, icons, but Gia was the most beautiful in my eyes. Noone could compare, just noone.
