There’s such an unstoppable surge of energy about this issue. I can still feel the radiating pulse and urgency of a historical movement from this— and all the while still feel the high excitement and radiating beauty of fashion alongside the women’s liberation spirit. The lessers of today could learn a thing or two hundred about how to present high fashion without drowning it out in a political climate.
And interestingly enough, the issue works so strongly on the efforts of many talents and not just Avedon. Such a strong team. Although his shot of Barbra is one of the greatest portraits of her (...I can see Meisel having this shot taped on his studio walls and burned into his mind like a mantra since it's so so so very much the essence of Meisel...). And that covershot remains so modern over half a century later. Such talent.
