US Vogue May 2009 by Steven Meisel

Those with a-list photographers are outtakes or killed editorials for sure, and there were many like this. When they needed one photo for some random article they used "new" photographers, like Dan Jackson and Hilary Walsh in this issue. This is crazy how she killed editorals left and right and then they published empty issues like April with Angelina Jolie on cover with just one fashion ed inside

Some magical and truly beautiful story happened to me just recently...

Me and Mr. Jonathan Van Meter (who wrote so beautifully “The Godfather” - profile on Steven Meisel for this very May 2009 issue) were following each other on Instagram for a few years. Time to time we left each other some comments, etc.

But in early December 2021 my Nana got very ill. And so I needed something to do just not to think about all the things that took place then and saddened me deeply. And so I started to re-read all of my favorite profiles for Vogue that Jonathan wrote throughout the years (I was a fan of his work for years and am collecting the issues he worked for). And I decided to write Jonathan a message where I expressed all my love, gratitude and admiration and to write him of how his work helped me to escape dark thoughts....but at the time I was oh-so-ready to send it to him I got some bad, bad news...my Nana has died.

A bit later I sent a message to Jonathan. He was so nice. He expressed his condolences to my loss. We started to exchange messages first on Instagram and then via email. I wrote him that out of all the profiles he wrote my very favorite one probably was The Godfather, but I lost my copy and I had to read it in screenshots...here, on FashionSpot

Long story short...Jonathan checked his archive and happened to be that he had not one but three copies of this issue and he was going to send one to me as his Christmas gift.

That was something....

And so just today (almost two month after) I went out my house, and somehow this time I did not forget to check my mail box (usually I do forget). And what was there?!!!

The most marvelous package. And there were two envelopes - white and grey. In white one was a postcard in which Jonathan wrote the as he promised he sent me the copy of the magazine as a Christmas gift. And in the grey one was his name card for me to frame it (I written him that I want something he write on a piece of paper so I could frame it).

And of course there was a MAGAZINE.

I am sooooo damn happy! Jonathan not only a gifted author, but also a very charming and nice human being. So it’s not surprise that some of the A-listers are so opened while talking to him. I’ll be his fan forever! And I will forever keep this copy of Vogue and his sweet notes to me
