US Vogue September 2004 by Steven Meisel

Well... it's nice that there are models on the cover ...
The only thing that I dislike is that they're all cramped !!!
Anyhow ... its good that Vogue decided to change ..though ..looking at it, I just think that the french are right ...
plus ça change, plus c'est la meme chose!

i think the people missing are carmen, alek and EUGENIA.
Daria looks weird
Doesnt it look like Karolina is the covergirl considering that the brunettes look like her backgrounds ( no offence...hey am also brunette!!!)

From VOGUE UK:

THE MODEL AGE

THE age of celebrity-obsession is over and models are back in the game, according to US Vogue. Having featured the likes of Nicole Kidman, Gwyneth Paltrow, Kate Hudson and Angelina Jolie on its cover in recent months, the American style bible has given the cover of its much-hyped, 832-page September issue over to nine of the world's most gorgeous current supermodels. But while in the days of Cindy, Christy, Linda and Naomi, most readers could have put names to the faces, these days, with the exception perhaps of Gisele Bundchen, the likes of Karen Elson, Gemma Ward, Hana Soukupova, Liya Kebede, Karolina Kurkova, Isabeli Fontana, Natalia Vodianova and Daria Werbowy are hardly known. And that's the way we want it, says the magazine's Sally Singer. "In this post-supermodel, post-superdesigner world, the very top people in fashion have their lives, go to work and go home," she told AP. "It's cooler to walk down the street and have only the people who should know you know you. It makes you part of this supercool club. Fashion is always slightly ahead of the curve culturally, and people are tiring of celebrities. Reality TV and the internet has cheapened being a 'celebrity'. To be famous now is to be Paris Hilton." (August 18 2004, AM)

Isnt it funny how people were always complaining that they put celibrities on the cover of Vogue. But now that they put the best models, they are still complaining...

I think its an awesome cover! Cant wait to see the editorials inside!

I also like the cover! The only problem I think is that they unbushified natalia's eyebrows... :( which I liked...

That was sorta like her thing :(

I am not a big fan of Karen Elson, but I do understand why she is on there...she has been doing so much campaigns and covers that she is one of those girls that you'd mention when talking about putting models on a cover full of cover-queens...at least I would, I think the choices are great!

I am very glad to see models on the cover of vogue again. My only complaint is that Liya seems to serve the role as the token black girl out of the set. It would have been nice and bit less obvious if they had alek, ujwalla, or even ai there as well so that their need to include A minority wasn't so blatant.

Here are some close-ups from the British Vogue website (last page was not featured:(

Did they photoshop Liya's Estee Lauder campaign into that picture? I can't tell a difference at all..

Here Here!!!

I'm so damn happy to see these girls rocking the cover, my complaints are merely for fun critique. I'm here at Women Management, and trust me, the fact that Julia didn't make the cover is a hot topic.
I love that picture of Gemma (but honestly, has she earned it yet?)
Vogue has been determined to single-handedly re-launch Karen's career for some time, so that's a personal thing
Steven Meisel kind of had this continuous model stream concept and all the girls ended up looking kind of similar - which really washed out the really distinctly beautiful girls (i;e Liya and Isabeli)

With all that said...how cool is this?!

That is the FUNNIEST (and truest) thing I read today. Thanks for the smile.

too commercial for me...but then again, what else can you expect from US Vogue :sideways:

Seriously? I think it's more like anti-commercialism, because noone knows these girls. It would be more commercial to put Nicole, Paris or whoever on the cover IMO

US Vogue September 2004 : World's Next Top Models by Steven Meisel

I was at Walgreens yesterday and was SHOCKED to see 2 copies of US Vogue September on the newstand! Of course, I bought one (although I was tempted to buy both!) I LOVE this issue (although I only care about the ads and editorials, and the models :P) My only complaints: in the "Model & Supermodel" article group photo they put Hana (who is the prettiest in that picture and had the best dress) right in the crack! Also, Karolina... err, "KK" came across as really full of herself and her individual portrait was stupid. I  Gemma and Gisele's portraits best. Also the Vogue Index is all about the models and really interesting (their favorite clothes, what they bring to travel, etc). Great issue for model fans!!!
