Valentino Haute Couture S/S 2018 Paris

O.M.G. VALENTINO! F.L.A.W.L.E.S.S.

Best collection of the week, best collection of the past few seasons, even years. This is a fashion moment and those pictures does no justice to those clothes.
You can see the passion, the talent, the expertise. I cried, i watched it 3 times already!

I mean, first look is boom! And then, it gets better and better, ideas keeps coming. The details, the splashes of colors...Suddenly a big gown turned out to be a jumpsuit, then a splash of liquid red.

Pierpaolo here used totally the ateliers capacities to it fullest. The genius is that a lot of those things could have been horrible and dated but thanks to his talent, it's actually very modern.
Those are clothes with personality and not a line-up of curated silhouettes.

Seriously, this is the best thing ever. I love absolutely everything. He did that! He made Mr Valentino proud and he proved to everybody that he has what it takes to be a couturier.

Maria Grazia was holding back his creativity but here he is giving us food for days!

I was so mad at those people recording with their phones. He deserved that standing ovation he got at the end! Shame on those who didn't stand-up!

This is the kind of show where i miss Isabelle Blow. She was always the one to clap for a great dress! I wanted to clap the whole time!

How drab and dreary! I would almost say is this a different designer?!

What a delight this collection is! Not everything works, of course, but it hardly matters for me when the rest is this captivating. The color palette is beautiful, you can tell there is a lot of experimentation, the hats only amplify the impact and there are some truly exquisite gowns the likes I haven't seen in ten or fifteen years.

To me, this is what couture should look like in the modern day and age - a lot of practical choices, but not on the expense of creativity and artistic freedom. I am glad Pierpaolo continues to successfully solidify his status at the house, I think he's a great match for the spirit of Valentino.

Gorgeous. I mean, it's not perfect - it feels stuffy for Spring, and some of these looks are a drought of fabric, but there's so much heart put into this. So many looks I absolutely adore. The soundtrack was also on point.

For me this is a real winner of the season. After takes and turns he is pushing towards a new direction, he has finally arrived. I think this is his best collection since he took control at the house and it shows everything. His passion, his talent and his confidence. Absolutely wonderful collection. The colors are magnificent. I really adore this. The embroidered red dress needs to be worn at the Oscars. He has proven himself to be more than capable as a couturier. I do feel bad for Maria Grazia. He basically just upstage her and show the world how it's done. Mr. Valentino should be very proud.

Fabric overdose. Like an upholstery collection. Too much!

And if those big volumes look weird in a model with a zero size, I can´t imagine how are they gonna look in a woman with a bigger size...

In terms of design, nothing new here. Looks dated.

It's no surprise Valentino has been on the up since Maria left especially when you look at what she's doing to Dior.

There's way too much going on but on the whole, it's lovely. With every collection it becomes clearer and clearer that he was the better half of the pair before Maria Grazia left.

his last couture collection was one of the most amazingly elegant, minimal, sublime things he's ever done... and now this? what happened here? IT'S TOO MUCH! there's some amazing looks here and there but it's too too much, some looks are hideous and all over the place.

So couture now means = incoherent, pretentious, unwearable ? Alrighty.

Beautiful collection. I love most of the looks and the colour palette is gorgeous.

It's a bit hit or miss for me - but I do appreciate the sort of 80's Couture redo (there are some very Lacroix moments here) - there's always something about that era of clothing that oftentimes looks so hideous in the original context (models, hair, makeup, set, etc), but when the garments themselves are removed from that period, they are oftentimes playful, inventive, beautiful on their own...

It's like late 90's YSL Couture - very dated on the face, but the casting of the girls somehow made those shows much sexier and interesting than they could have been (ie, someone like Esther Canadas in a stuffy YSL day suit was heaven)

I digress...

Some pieces here earlier in the collection are a bit 2-dimensional for me - the fabrics feel a bit flat and the color-blocking maybe too obvious? Not sure. And while at this point I have no hope for the modeling world, I still do wish we had models of the caliber of those late 90's early 00's girls...they really knew how to carry clothes with grace and authority - especially when they walked Couture. It made a difference, and I feel like the loss is felt a bit here for me from making this good show really GREAT.

I'm head over heels with this show, the styling amplified the sense of utter refinement and elegance. I personally would have detested this so have sexier models, I like the contrast between a rather innocent looking model and a glamourous gown like the ones in here. These are not "sexy" clothes. Even more Grand Dame types would have been overkill.

Maybe my eyesight/fashion knowledge has gone to hell but this doesn't feel Lacroix to me (with the exception of some color choices and the hats), it's very late sixties Yves or even Balenciaga, in looks like the one on Yasmeen or Julia Ratner (my favorite), the satin cloaks or the luscious ruffles particularly, even the plays with transparency...

I feel the couture magic:crush:, and this doesn't happen often in the last 5-10 years
