It needs to be edited down badly. I'm exhausted trying to get the entire collection in so I can form my thoughts. It wouldn't be so bad if it didn't feel like they were trying to put every single idea they had into this one show.

Good clothes doesn’t always equate good fashion. And no other brand really represents that better than Valentino…
I would compare this to Tom Ford for example. Both shows are about that tension between sophistication and relaxed, a lot of strong colors and shiny fabrics…
Let’s say that, o would probably buy more clothes from Valentino SS2022 than from Tom Ford SS2022. But, Tom Ford gave me a feeling of fashion. It felt like a statement when Valentino feels like a line up of stuff, a trunk show where everybox is check.
I don’t know if this is the strategy to make the brand attractive. Even more when they have a lackluster line of accessories and I’m not even talking about Valentino beauty.
More than diversity, I feel like he is against the way people use diversity.
I feel the same way. If you want to be diverse, let people get into your world. Don’t dilute yourself or the identity of your brand to cater to people. That’s when diversity feels forced and marketing driven.
Valentino is about the jet set and glamorous life. Giancarlo Giametti and Mr Garavani are living that life. Pierpaolo wants to add more reality and street flair to it but Valentino will always be more Avenue Montaigne than Beaubourg.

I know you're being sarcastic!! But there's definitely a clear difference between, say, the SS20 RTW cast (diversity & unconventional casting choices don't intersect) and this one. It seems Valentino's gone down this tacky route of appealing to the TikTok youth through eccentric casting choices, and as someone who would fit under that audience bracket... I hate it. LV does it better, and I'd argue they're the only brand to successfully pull off the "young, badass model who likes to live life on the edge & experiment every chance they can" route. Some of the Valentino models, unfortunately, distract from the clothes...
As for the collection, I've always thought PPP's couture far outweighs his RTW collections... this unfortunately seems to be the pinnacle of it. There's very few standout pieces that come to mind, and it just comes off as a lazy Parisian comeback. It's like the extravagance of Valentino gets lost during RTW in preference for wearability, but there's none to be discovered when the pieces themselves are unappealing to the eye.

I just looked at the trunkshow for this collection on Moda operandi and o_0 they are really pushing it with the make believe haute couture clothes as RTW

I just saw a wool cape for 28,000.00 couture price for sure, kinda out of hand i wonder how many do they make for a season

I read an article (and im pissed bc I cant find it again!! so if anyone knows please post lol) about how a lot of designers are starting to price extremely high with the intention of selling most of the merchandise on sale. It's possible a factor here is creating the magical aura around the collection with a high price tag so people will try to snatch it up on sale with the aspiration of wearing fancy clothes. Altho I do know people who don't wait for Valentino to go on sale to buy, and even on sale it'll be expensive so I don't know lol
