disappointments and discoveries

Sometimes, models have bad days and moments. I have heard a lot of people had bad experiences with their model encounters in Milan and Paris this season, and I just would like to say cheer up and stop putting your favorite models on a pedestal so high that even the Virgin Mary cannot maintain being on…

Something for all model fans to remember… The models are people, just like you and me. They have human flaws and emotions and feelings. Most of them are very nice and sweet. And even the models from my experiences and numerous captures that are not genuine people are nice to their fans because they like to have fans. They appreciate that there is someone out there that loves them outside their intimate circle.

But I am a beauty beyond skin type of person… I have beautiful individual pictures of some models that I will never share here just because I don’t see genuine beauty from inside. Thus, posting them would be a conflict of my beliefs for my blogs.

And unfortunately, one of those girls was a favorite of mines before I ever attended a fashion week. When I first met her one morning as a fan, she was super sweet to me. Too sugary sweet that I thought she was perfect! This was during the time when I was just attending shows and not really documenting the scene. But after that one nice encounter, the model was so inconsistent that it disappointed my soul because I felt so foolish and stupid.

Hours after the encounter, she turned into a diva exiting a show when all the photographers were outside. I was just observing, but there was an air of snobbery that continued to exude from her shows after shows in February. It left me so confused that I had to ask people who had been covering fashion weeks around the world for years if I was seeing things. One person after the other confirmed to me that it was an act she put out so that fans would not write bad things about her. I did not believe it. I kept on making excuses about bad timing, bad moments, etc. I know people do change once they become famous and rich, but not her, right?

I did not believe it. I was stubborn so I wanted to wait until this September to prove people wrong. I had seen girls turn nicer throughout the day as the stress and pressure decrease. I figured my girl was just having some bad days, but she was not booked for that many shows, yet, I had plenty of excuses for her anyway. And came September, in which NYFW SS 2011 just only confirmed truly now that the girl whose beauty I really liked in the magazines does not have an inner beauty to correspond with the beautiful pictures. It was painful to see once again this season shows after shows how snobbish and disappointing this whole act was.

To be honest, I rather capture a new or rising model who enjoys being photographed as much as I enjoy taking pictures. I rather take pictures of someone who was booked just for a few shows. To me, her inner beauty would make up for everything that the casting directors neglected to see. It girls come and go in this industry. Beauty, fame, money, and popularity all do not last forever and are not even that valuable because none of those things guarantee true happiness.

Ending this whole story with something positive. Although that one model disappointed me as well as a few other models whom I had initially favored before ever meeting in person, my joy has been in discovering beautiful models with beautiful souls. If I was not so stubborn to have stayed a few more days in February to disprove my disappointment, I would not have met and photographed models like Irina Kulikova and Anna Vanessa Hegelmaier in the winter. I did not talk to them then because I was just busy photographing, but discoveries like them make it worth it for me!

Thank you so much!

Her editorials are so stunning it's beyond me why she's not getting more print work.

By the way, she's no longer with Dmodels / Greece. Does anyone know if she's with any other agency apart from IMG, Models1 and Whynotmodels?
