Vanity Fair June 2025 : Scarlett Johansson by Lachlan Bailey

Geraldine and Lachlan always do the same style of editorial... It's time for a change and always the same style of clothes, notice that Doutzen's editorial for Vogue Netherlands last year was EXACTLY like this, clothes, environments, decoration, all the SAME!

Géraldine is doing a copy cat of herself publications to publications, from ELLE France to CN US.
Kudos to her for booking all of that. Her collaboration with Bailey is working. However the outcome is getting stale…

I think it's lovely. Classic. Pretty. Good choice with Scarlett. She does look like Kate Winslet on the cover though.

It looks like a lookbook of Massimo Dutti. Géraldine & Lachlan is such a bore duo.

I like the cover, simple but effective and Scarlett does look beautiful.

The cover story is Vanity Fair on cruise control - I've no complaints about it, but there's also nothing there for me to keep the issue around after I've read it.

Saying that, this is probably a higher standard of shoot than I'd get from many editions of Vogue.

I want glamour and opulence from VF
I want all of that and more, but the only place where I get some is Tatler.

even MD is more interesting sometimes and it is advertising...this is editorial and looks stale...

Geraldine is limited as stylist and the problem is that she doesnt let herself evolve...

The same cover shot has been used for Vanity Fair Italia for the issue dated 21st May 2025 (No.21), and for Vanity Fair España June 2025

Can't wait for this era of au naturel eds to end. I miss glamour, high contrast and heavy retouching of the 2000's. It was often unrealistic, but I don't look for realism in fashion photography.

It IS no the case but, sometimes, the pretended naturalness it seems artificial.

The cover is not striking enough for me but I do like the photographs of Johansson inside of the issue.

I'm also massively here for high glamour, but I'm also very much a fan of these laid-back, effortless, and nonchalant cover stories. Lachlan Bailey is the absolute master of the latter, and this is just another prime example. The whole shoot is gorgeous, the colouring is sublime. I love the juxtaposition with the vivid red Vanity Fair masthead too.

Because this cover was announced over a fortnight ago, I thought that I'd received this issue but had put it away somewhere for later - only to find it doesn't come out in the UK until 3rd June, so that'll be around three weeks between the instagram post and the actual print issue appearing.

At this rate, they might as well tell us today who's on the September issue.
