Veneers

i want veneers... but i dont... i just cant imagine being in my 70s or 80s with stark white fake teeth

I have veneers on my two top front teeth because I have really bad fluorosis on my teeth, and on those two the enamel was so damaged it looked cracked.

I don't really like them though, I'm constantly paranoid I'm going to break them (because I did that on one tooth with my first set of veneers) and I'm dreading the cost when they need to be replaced. Originally I got them done for free on the NHS but now of course I will have to pay and they are so expensive.

It's better than my old teeth though I suppose.

I was wondering how long you can have veneers before they need to be replaced? how much maintainence is involved? Is it rare for them to come off? I remember watching Katie Price's show when she was in the car one of her veneers came off and she had to rush to the dentist, would this be painful?

My teeth are fine but they need whitening, whenever I go to a doctor he/she said its dangerous to whiten my teeth because it would take of a layer or whatever off the tooth. Anyways I don't like the color of my teeth so would veneers be a better option?

cultstatus - they only should come off if they weren't bonded properly, like mine. It's not painful but it is very stressful to have one come off. It's definitely not a frequency occurrence with properly done veneers.

D A N A - to have veneers you need to have the enamel filed down anyway, so I can't see how that would be better than whitening... but I'm not a dentist!

Has anyone here in the UK had them done fairly recently?
I definitely want them on my front two teeth at least, theyre kind of worn (see through-ish) and chipped/jagged at the bottom with a slight gap in the middle, and I also have thang teeth (canines?) which don't really sit in line with the rest of my teeth so I don't know what could be done about them... and basically just want the rest whitened. I want a neat smile!
I'm just trying to get an idea of cost really, and pain
I had my first ever filling today, which came as a shock as I just went in for a check-up and he was like ohhh cavity *out come the injections/scary drill things*
I was a little petrified as I wasn't going in expecting to have this done - I have never, ever had any problems with my teeth, just since I was very young and my ugly awkward thangs started growing I've never had any confidence in my smile and even now still keep my mouth shut for photos! I don't want this to keep getting me down all my life so I guess the expense will be necessary, and worth it...
Sorry for the rant! Just want to see if anyones had any similar experience/treatments that I've referred to
