Meet the New Guy: Victor Nylander Wants Flying Minature Robots that Can Shoot Lasers

Danish rising star Victor Nylander follows fellow Dane Mathias Lauridsen as the premier male model of the new decade. The 19-year-old got his start early this year opening the fall 2011 Versace show in Milan, and also walking for Prada. Famous lensman Mario Testino then shot Nylander for the spring Versace campaign, alongside Abbey Lee Kershaw. Karl Lagerfeld and Kris Van Assche also booked Nylander as the sole face of Dior Homme's spring campaign. Nylander's spring editorials are nothing to balk at either — one is on the current cover of Numéro Homme, shot by Pierre Debusschere. We caught up with him to talk about his love for soccer and his mom's homemade cooking.

If you had to pick one, would you only do runway or editorial?
Runway. There are always a lot of other models I can talk with, and I like the kick.

If modeling never came into the picture, what would you be doing?
I would be a professional soccer player for Real Madrid. No, I'm kidding. But really I would have liked to become a firefighter.

What about this: If not yourself, who would you be?
Cristiano Ronaldo. I like his attitude and his skills. He is the best football player in the world.

You're about to be stranded on an island and you can bring one person and one thing — who and what would you bring?
I would bring my best friend, and a couple of flying miniature robots that can shoot lasers, so we can have fun all day long.

When you have a day off, what do you like to do in your free time?
It depends. When I am in Denmark, I like to be with my family, chill with my friends, and play football. When I am in Paris modeling, I like to walk around in the city and listen to some good music .

Let's play favorites, what is your favorite:
Book? I don’t have a favorite book, but right now I am reading one about a Danish boxer called Mikkel Kessler.

Film? Shawshank Redemption, but I mostly watch TV shows, like Entourage and Mad Men.

Musician? Coldplay and Kanye West.

Food? My mom’s homemade food.

What are your plans tomorrow?
I'm taking my little brother to Copenhagen zoo to show him around and have fun.

Your idea of happiness is …
To be with the people I care about.

Life motto?
The wings of freedom belongs to those who have the courage to use them.

Where do you see yourself in ten years?

I would like to start my own company, but I try to live in the moment and see where life takes me.
.nytimes, the cut.
