Young Belarusian beauty Viktoria Makhota has come second at the prestigious international contest 2007 Ford Supermodel of the World. The final show took place in New York on January 17. A representative from the Netherlands came first and a Dane landed third, director of Sergei Nagornyi’s Fashion Studio Olga Popova informed BelTA.
She said, 15-year-old Viktoria had every chance to win. “On the eve of the hour-and-a-half-long show Viktoria just like other girls was nervous, but was dead set on winning”, noted Olga Popova. As a result, she did well by overcoming representatives of more than 40 countries. According to the jury panel, the Belarusian competitor’s defile was the best.
Viktoria has been awarded with an opportunity to sign a one year contract worth $150,000, while the winner from the Netherlands can sign a contract worth $250,000.
It should be noted that Viktoria Makhota, grade 9 student of a Minsk secondary school, had not been involved in the modelling business before she won the national elimination round in November 2006.
The director of Sergei Nagornyi’s Fashion Studio stressed, it is the second time Belarus has been a winner of this prestigious contest: 2006 saw Yekaterina Domankova take the first place. According to Olga Popova, it is an excellent result.
Ford Models Agency held the first international contest Supermodel of the World in Monte Carlo in September 1980. Entrants have to be girls aged 14-20, 174-180 cm tall without modelling experience or with not more than two years of modelling experience.
