Visvim Mens S/S 2015 New York

Hiroki and Kelsi Nakamura’s men’s and women’s Visvim collection was inspired by post-World War II images, including cheerful retro Hawaiian prints, which appeared on everything from button-fronts to easy, breezy dresses, and vintage handkerchief patterns on whimsical shirts. Working with an indigo workshop in Japan, the pieces were colored using all-natural dyes. Leather outerwear, meanwhile, had a cool Western motif.

The men’s line has become a bit of a cult favorite. Designed exclusively by Hiroki Nakamura, the collection features hand-painted kimonos and aloha shirts with Japanese embroidery and silk-screen prints. One dragon-and-feather-painted kimono took six months to complete. In addition to the novelty pieces, the hot-rod-inspired Fifties aesthetic infused with Japanese workwear references will undoubtedly continue to influence.
