Vogue Australia August 2021 : Billie Eilish by Emma Summerton

If you would tell me that background is not photoshopped I would say you lying...
This cover comes way too soon after her UK one and her team should have say a BIG NO to this mess
Lets see the ed and hope it's less laughable than this but I highly doubt

The fashion industry keeps humoring celebrities with their nonsense public personas, and this is what we end up with.

Wow, I almost can't believe how disastrous this is.

How I feel bout her should be besides the point. It's the job of a fashion rag that Vogue once upon a time did make the effort to impress upon me a side of someone like that I've never seen before.

This lazy slop that look like she dressed herself is pathetic-- and that she’s so carelessly cut and pasted onto the background is even more beyond pathetic on Australia’s part. That there are 15yo kidz who have better digital-compositing skills than whoever suckered the art team into hiring to do this is making this already clueless publication even more pathetic than they already are. My god— hire someone from fiver if you can’t afford professional post-production. Poor poor poor Emma to be associated with this amateur offering. What a joke Vogue is consistently proving to be.

it’s so bad I can’t! like, no.

how would anyone say ‘what a great cover shot!’ I’m lost with words. bad.

I just don’t know who Vogue is trying to appeal to … it’s kinda sad how irrelevant they have made themselves

Another decent issue ruined by a bad cover. Billie's shoot fits for inside editorials, but it's to risky for a cover and it shows.

The worst thing about this is that the only fashion story in this issue of Vogue is a Louis Vuitton advertorial. Aside from the regular reprint (Fran Summers' British Vogue editorial), of course. The beauty story is also a reprint from Vogue Ukraine. Is this really what Vogue has become now? What is the point? Just shut it down all together and save the trees.

What's with the sudden obsession with dancers? I've noticed a lot of editorials focused on dancers lately, which isn't neccessarily a bad thing. However, I don't like this one at all. Had there been more good content to focus on, perhaps I'd even like it, but not here. Sycco's a snoozefest, completely forgettable. And then there's the only decent story in the entire issue - the cover story. I love the direction, it works much better as an editorial than the cover would lead you to believe and it fits Billie's image perfectly. There's something nostalgic about it, reminds me a lot of late 90s US Vogue and Raymond Meier.

Billie’s only decent shot is the one in white Peter Do ensemble. all the other ones are bad and that photoshop?? how?!!

it’s a very underwhelming issue.

I will never understand her appeal. Never.
Dull music, and dull persona, but fashion is so desperately trying to make her that girl.

There’s another one who fits that comment more and more involved into fashion lately. And her name is Dua Lipa.

I actually don’t mind Billie. She’s a cool girl and I enjoy her music. That cover might not be her best or a good one in general, but I think editorial photos are fine and fits her style as an artist. No wigs or complete other images like that one, I mentioned before, used to do.

These dull basic pop girlz these days match the dull fashion times...

Except for the exact expression she has for every single shot, her story is actually a vast improvement over the awful covershot’s production, if I'm to be fair. The concept of her floating against these printed seamless is solidly executed— very late-90s Radiohead/Unkle music videos. Glad to see Emma is showing a bit of range and not faltering at that, to boot. I suspect they wanted to clean up the creases/wrinkles of the seamless for the covershot for whatever reasons and just messed up so it ended up looking so cut-an-paste. I’m not a 12yo gay and his hag who are both going through their faux-existentialist/faux-angst pubescent period while cozily cocooned in suburbia so I’m not the targeted readership. But this sort of imagery along with the Billie Ellish dolls at Target will go hand-in-hand for the children that stan her. Very on-brand.
