Vogue Australia December 2016 : Julia Nobis by Daniel Jackson

So happy when I saw this title! Julia is so neglected here in Aus even though she is such a star. I like the cover but I wish it was a bit more summery now that it is getting hot.

Also, there is currently a Viktor + Rolf exhibition here atm if anyone was wondering why they are featured.

Such a pristine cover, and probably Julia's best Vogue Australia cover to date.

Could the reason be why she isn't featured more locally in Australia be attributed to her wanting to keep a lower profile in her home country? It seems like when she's back in Australia it's more for school and work and not much else. And the work she does when she's on the modelling circuit is incredible...

I don't like this at all, it looks too much like her Jil Sander campaign. There's a reason we hardly ever see Julia on covers in general (not just in Australia). It's her perpetually vacant expression, which I don't think appeal to most readers. They should've sexed her up like Vogue Germany did, or at least something more periodic like that orange orchard story a while back.

Julia looks great and I love how they incorporated the illustrations into the cover. Beautiful cover to finish the year !

They should've sexed her up like Vogue Germany did

This is awesome. Julia looks great. Illustrations look great. Love the layout.

Would have loved to have only the illustrations on the cover. Julia is unfortunately very boring.

It's different and I like it. Good to see Julia in Vogue Australia.

I'd say it's one of the best covers of the year, just because in general covers have been pretty lackluster. Julia is lovely, V&R never is, but somehow it works. It's nice to see Vogue Australia still capable of delivering slightly creative covers and giving illustrations some love (Cate Blanchett's series..). Too bad these days they seem mega torn between their creative needs and their financial needs and as a result, incongruent and hardly serious about their direction.. by January they'll probably settle with a third Kardashian cover to makeup for this month's more 'experimental' venture.

I love the concept and layout but I wish for a different model, she seems to be photographed always the same way imo... this could have been easily by Willy, Jil Sander comes to mind.

Julia always gives the same expression in photographs....blank. And she's always styled this way, too.

I'd say about the only time I feel like she offered up something different and with a pulse was her most recent Meisel-lensed Dior ad campaign.

Yes Julia yes! Best cover of the year.
She is such a queen.
There is no point in trying to make her something she is not.
Her "plainness" and "blankness" is what makes her Julia, the most prominent model in recent memory.
Her lack of versatility is exactly what makes her so versatile so that every major designer wants her in their vision.
She is a true blank canvas, a carte blanche, a truly great model.
It's a great way to close the year.

Vogue Australia is only one of the few Vogues that care and for the most part, succeed with their art direction. And I like this concept of matching doodles with a shot with a graphic sharpness. Just wished there was actually a sense of the graphic sharpness on Julia’s part. It’s not her at all— she is who she is so you should know what you’re getting with her ... It’s the cover shot select that’s got me puzzled. Surely there are a few images from this shoot that can compliment the doodles more strongly than this passport portrait…????

You’re right dior: I would have loved to see something with as strong a composition as the Meisel Dior campaign with her.

I love this! It's so fresh with the doodles. A lot of Vogue editions should take notice and do their own thing too. It's a great shot of Julia, I agree with gazebo it's her refusal to adjust to other people's whims that makes her so cool. It looks like she has a strong sense of self. The girl has no social media and manages to score Vogue covers and campaigns... :cool2:

Nice to see Vogue Australia supporting one of her own (which was been a long time coming this year) but this cover fails to make an impression on me, to be completely honest. It's just.. bland, vacant and no pizazz whatsoever. Meh!

Eugh finally a great cover again, Vogue Australia was stuck in a dark period for a while...

Wow!! This is so unexpected and crisp. I think the red masthead will really pop on newsstands. Thank god VA finally did Julia justice, she's like the Cate Blanchett of aussie models and her past covers were a mess.
