Vogue France December 2023/January 2024 : Ida Heiner by Theo de Gueltzl

This cover is one of Vogue France's best. I really like the color palette because it looks fresh.

Maybe I'm just really not that into contemporary fashion, but I don't like this at all. It's not elevated enough to even be registered as high fashion in my brain. It's just an image of a girl in a cape, one that I simply do not care for.

I thought what she was wearing was very caricatured, it looks like a superhero costume!

It's all so Emily in Paris now, and Emily being 'inspired' by the Lara Stone era of Vogue Paris and extremely confident that it can be easily recreated, but this is the best model she could find, the one 'superheroine' getup she could think of which looks more like an altered uniform of some kids' level 2 ballet class showcase, a 'custom made' cape they probably overhyped for days and that still looks Shein, and such a timid/unimpressive pose with the photographer wanting alignment with the 4 lines between her feet at all costs, so now the left foot looks in pain and it's so not selling 'superhero arrival'.

Happy for Ida, but she deserved a better cover.

The one I once saw wasn't that great.

Sounds like someone could use an eBay spree  Their guest-edited issues always felt like an event to me - my introduction to them was Tom Ford's and I loved each one since! Including the incredible issues that preceded it, they have an impressive line-up of great names that have contributed to the magazine over the years.

I also just miss the festive glamour of Emmanuelle Alt...

I sometimes think about what Emmanuelle Alt would have done with all the new collections at Vogue Paris. I know that she would have published more fashion editorials with the models/photographers/stylists that she and I loved. Can't believe what has become of Vogue France. Has anyone there leafed through the Vogue Paris back issues for inspiration?

I'm not even talking about the ones under Carine or Emmanuelle (who I personally was not a fan of and quit buying VP long before it become Vogue France). Find an old scanned copy of the ones they put out in the 1970s under Francine Crescent to see how a magazine was really done.

December and January and you have this? Lol.

What really disappoints me is the fact that there's a budget but what's lacking is the creative direction. You had Ida there, on this beautiful day, with beautiful lighting.. and somehow she ended up just standing there.

I understand that they wanted something Super Hero-esque. But the pose could've been a game changer. What is their vision?

Under Crescent and Pringle the December covers had huge guest editors, under JJB they each had a very specific and distinct theme (usually displayed by a huge wordmark on the cover saying what the issue was about) then under Carine we had major celebs and guest editors under Alt this continued. I think we need to start the hashtag #BringBackGuestEditors.

Also can we get the cover a bit more arty for the Art et Mode issue!

The styling and location makes it look like a dated cover from the 2010s and not in a good way.

I love the background and lighting, the rest is mediocre as usual, in fact here the cover looks stupid and amateurish.

Layout is not good.. and the picture is too busy for a cover.
This magazine is a hot mess

Why i dont like it's the white tights...too costumey....i like it much more than most of the Vogue France covers....

I like it and I am happy for Ida! Can't wait for the editorial inside
The Vogue cover is long time overdue, she deserved it now!
