Vogue Italia August 2012 : Jamie Bochert by Steven Meisel

Feeling nostalgic, scrolling my covers archive. I stopped at this one, not just because the cover, but the mood of the editorial. I take Starry and Marc10 opinions here. To me they are waiting for her lover to come, girls full dressed up, and then the guy never showed, which you can see the sadness on the girls faces. It happened to me like a year ago, and I ended leaving home anyway, with unexpected plans (with some tears, I must admit). Also I thought a lot about this editorial during quarantine, being at home and the solitude of it. I would love to know from where Meisel (or maybe the fashion editor) took this brilliant idea. There's no cultural reference here, except Lou Reed's song. I miss this kind of narrative, creativity, the casting, etc., from Meisel and fashion magazines in general. Reminds me a bit an scene from "Things you can tell just by looking at her", when Cameron Diaz, playing a gourgeous blind woman, all dressed up, and cries while talking to her sister because her date never comes.

I love to comment these old issues. If there's nothing great about the present, there's a whole archive to revisit. Also I wasn't part of TFS at the time. Feel jealous from you guys. I'm sure most of you own these issues from VI.

^i agree. anticipating each new issue of vogue italia felt great. i usually felt that the rest of the magazine was trash (apart from lindbergh, roversi etc here and there) but the meisel stories were always such a hit for me. you don't find this level of storytelling in magazines anymore.

It was amazing. I remember the expectation during the first days of every month. I used to visit their website early morning to find the new cover, and some of them never showed until 5/7 days after. I started to save the covers because I felt for Jason Duzansky's art direction and Meisel's photography, of course. And I loved it every single time. I used to think a lot about the editorials, getting the mood, somehow being part of the stories and taking some element. I bought my very first VI last December, many many years later. And a really good one, March 2013, Vanessa Axente and Gustav. I couldn't believe it! That cover. There are other eds by Lindbergh and Roversi, but not huge stories as they are known for, and Sorrenti plus Aldridge. Also bought my very first issue of Vogue Paris, with Edita by Testino (Oct 2013). Both magazines used to be free from today's fashion garbage. So well made. I hope to own more the years to come, but vintage, c'mon! I regret skipping Ashleigh Good cover, which I wanted so bad to buy, but didn't have the money at the time :'(
