As a collector who collects Vogue Nippon/Japan since the first issue (including the test issue before that), I feel so sad to see how this title has become... What a shame! The journey really stopped after their 20th anniversary...

which one was the test issue?....VJ was so good...

^cover model? That's Jin (real name Kim Seokjin), one of the vocalists of BTS.

@Starry, thank you for the look at the test issue! That'd be impossible to find now. Would love a look at some of the inside pages if you're ever so inclined (photographs only, don't want to take apart a collectors issue to scan!)

I don't have the issue with me right now. It's stored with all my other collections in my parents' place. However I did a little research online and found some images inside. There are still a few copies available on Mercari (Japanese second-hand goods website).

Basically the first two years of Vogue Nippon from 1999-2001 August had the mission to introduce "Vogue" the brand to the Japanese market. So in each issue there's a section with iconic images/features selected from Vogue's history. Art direction-wise, the first two years had more traditional Japanese publication style: with a lot of Japanese Hiragana & Kanji in cover titles and content pages (as oppose to the era starting from 2001 September with Big English title on the cover and inside the pages). It had a fine balance between Japanese culture and Western fashion in this era. Starting from September 2001 issue, it had a big change in art direction and became more western style imo (and this era might be the one many tfs members remembered). Anyway, Vogue Nippon used to be soooo good.

Here are some previews of the test issue:
