Vogue Japan January 2016 : Jourdan Dunn by Giampaolo Sgura

So much better cover options from that editorial! What were they thinking

I'm actually surprised by the toned-down styling here. That looks good. The rest is awfully pedestrian. Why would Sgura want his shoot to look like some rejected Burberry campaign?

I would say the main problem of this magazine now is the art and fashion direction, and the main person to be blamed is ADR! She really re-shaped how the editorials and covers go (of course she is the fashion director).

As a long-time reader of Vogue Japan (I even miss the old day when it was called Vogue Nippon), I was amazed how good the editorials were when George Cortina was at the position. Remember some of those long eds by I&V, Mario Sorrenti or Mikael Jasson? After ADR took over the position, what we usually get are those horribly-styled, over-the-top eds shot by Sgura...

Nippon VOGUE in the early 2000s was miles ahead of all other international editions. the photographers, models, fashion features and articles. so much beautiful imagery vs text; I wish I remembered more the the Japanese I learned in grade school.

lots of archival images and content but thoughtfully done in way to bring those images into a new modern, context.

the design direction was gorgeous and a dream to to look at. understated without feeling somber or bare like so many magazines who get caught up in minimalism. just right amount of playful attitude versus restrained elegance. I wish we had more of those early issues to look at on TFS.

I hope the script font trend ends very very soon :hardhead:. If the likes of Good Housekeeping and Better Homes & Gardens keep splashing this across their covers like there's no tomorrow maybe VOGUE Japan should move on and come up with something new?

jourdan is criminally underrated, even at her level.

love this cover, she needs more covers.

Finally a good cover by Sgura for VJ. Jourdan looks gorgerous & the editorial is fine.

Thanks for posting the edits, Sensation! ;). The girl may look like she took part in The Colour Run, but these type of OTT features are actually best suited to VJ.

Lily Donaldson should have gotten the cover

Sgura Sgura Sgura..month after month delivering these atrocious covers with some of the most beautiful models in the biz. The eds are always a half a step up but regardless: SGURA MUST GO :censored:
