Vogue Philippines June 2024 : Isabel Sandoval by Kim Jones

I hate how her pose makes her look like an amputee.

This year's Pride cover isn't as upfront as last year's issue with how they presented Isabel here, but it's still a good one. I saw some editorial photos on their website, and while they love using cover photos where their cover stars are just standing, Kim Jones captured some decent shots of this well-celebrated trans auteur inside.

One thing that I dislike about Isabel's cover, though, is the erratic spacing between the cover lines.

Now with their first ever Vogue Man issue. I absolutely love it! The fact that they finally have a working model on their cover after eight long months makes me want to get a copy of this issue immediately.

I think Danyl Geneciran is a great addition to this magazine. He has connections and taste level.

(Not having Cenon Norial and Mav Bernardo just for one editorial in this issue is a missed opportunity.)

The cover is giving Tatler vibes

It is.

By the way, do you know any truths
regarding the issue that's currently circulating about their COO and publisher?

Their current publisher was yes taken out. Would have to double check on why. Also, there's rumors going around that how was MEGA able to "sustain" these titles? It's because of laundered money.

And in a side note, the Vogue staff weren't fed during the Vogue Man launch, for there wasn't enough food, but they were "required" to attend the launch.

Her facial expression is a miss for me.

Shouldn't the Paolo Roldan cover/issue have a separate thread? Since it's men's edition?

Thanks again for the insight. Also heard from friends that there were some unsavoury behaviours from their top management because— unfortunately, that’s just how the hierarchy culture of these regions have always been— and when it’s fashion, it somehow gives people the right to be jerks, all the while parading this veneer of kindness. generosity, inclusivity blah blah blah because that’s the Vogue brand now (that nobody-- unless they’re 12yo, are convened that they are BTW). I’ve had the misfortune of dealing with similar work experiences and treatment. And I get Filipinos are fiercely loyal, supportive and proud of their own no doubt, and apparently having this tired brand of their own seems worthy of turning a blind eye to the corruption and abuse the owners inflict upon their lower-tier employees. Eh.

Their Vogue Man cover is great— very reminiscent of the ones from Vogue Hommes of the mid-2000s. Hope they can sustain this decent quality from issue to issue— unlike the women’s that had a great inaugural cover and decent coverstory, but just plummeted from there on out. Decent enough fashion stories: nothing fresh, nothing new, and nothing worthy of remembrance, with the standout story of the main 3 (there's another 3 small ones) being “Chain Mail”, that has an mid-90s Arena Magazine look to the aesthetic. But it’s all been done countless times before. Content is more checklist of diversity, body positivity and spiritually blah blah blah— while apparently not even feeding their staff at mandatory event appearances LMFAO

Vogue Man Philippines June 2024

^^ I'm dying to know more lol
As an aside, I've always thought Bea and Pam were so chic, but from my understanding (having many Filipino-American friends) the social structure in the Philippines is very rigid and questionable behavior abounds in the high society circles there. I guess it's the same everywhere, though.

The ousted publisher has a hold order for estafa.

Also, there was yet again opening for editorial assistant (given there's a huge turnover of Vogue Ph junior staff). The prerequisite to get the job, you have to have a lot of $$$$ because you're "required" to shoulder some "work" related stuff including travel expenses of the editors.

I love collecting this magazine, but the people behind it are really sketchy. Some of them do read TFS for feedback and inspiration; well I guess they're getting enough feedback from us here this month.

Anyway, my print copy shows 152 pages for their June issue and 84 pages for the Vogue Man supplement. I'm not surprised that the Vogue Man supplement is more well-curated than the main magazine with its EIC, Danyl, describing this as his greatest outlet in publishing. Giseok Cho and Jude Lartey photographed some of the highlights of this issue aside from Paolo Roldan's cover story, of course.

The main magazine deviates from what I expected them to do for Pride month which is evident from the cover itself—a dark, almost a painting-like photograph of a celebrated trans woman, Isabel Sandoval, shot by a fashion personality and former it-girl, Kim Jones.

They also have a feature on RuPaul's Drag Race UK's Marina Summers in their beauty section but out of drag as well as queer model Cath Ibay whom I thought would have gotten this month's cover with her girlfriend, Raejell Roxas. One of their main articles tackles about the pros and cons of using AI in the creative field with some AI-generated artworks accompanying it. Hmm...

The overall mood of their main magazine somber—a complete opposite from their first Pride issue that heavily relied on the Pride colors in curating their pages last year (as seen on their Last Word page). Their editorials lack variety this time aside from Marina's. Not my cup of tea for a Vogue Philippines issue, but it's still better than some issues I've encountered in this forum.

I don't know who is this people, but it's nice they support local talent.

What??

^^ Yes, this makes no sense. Does this mean the assistants have to pay for their boss's travel and then get reimbursed? If that's the case, why wouldn't their boss just put it on their credit card and get reimbursed themselves? I'm so confused.
