Too bleak & mundane for a September issue 😴
I was expecting a model or a fashion icon but instead they opted for this abomination 🥱
Vogue Ph cannot escape it's woke & nat geo/time facade They desperately need new direction
The quality feels too raw for my taste, but it’s undeniably a striking image, one that captures Filipino identity through Filipino fashion.
I’m curious to see what’s inside this issue. I heard they’ve revamped the layout a little bit with hip and modern fonts, and with 422 pages to mark their third anniversary, it sounds like a major editorial push.
PS: Here’s my take on the cover with a different design. I adjusted the layout to reflect how I wanted it since the original blurb felt too weighted on the right side.
I find it an unusual, striking, and beautiful September cover. The photograph works wonderfully. @crmsn Your version of the cover is a huge improvement and a successful one. I love your typographic version 👏
Oh I'm liking this: it feels fresh, you can almost hear the sound of the waves, love the colors, the lighting, the images feel soft and calm. The cover is striking too happy with this.
These covers are beautiful, but I won't pay additional 5 USD for just a sleeve. They should shoot the cover under pink skies soon! That Sharif Hamza photo is incredible, though it doesn’t align as a fashion magazine cover to me.
And props to them for featuring our very own @pantryboy, BJ Pascual, again. Last time I clocked his work in this magazine was back in February 2023.
This edition of Vogue needs to be rebranded as Vogue Culture & Wellness, since fashion is an afterthought. The Gucci advertorial is the sole fashion story (in that it’s just fashion— not a fashion story supporting a feature on some sort of activism and/or self-empowerment). Same with the men’s: The Pinocchio-esque fashion story is the only fashion story from their Vogue Man.
Shame, because Sharif’s shoot is very pretty, even has some solid imagery, as is the competently-shot coverstory. Promoting your own people's activism and culture is a noble gesture— but then why do it under the banner of Vogue since it’s got nothing associated with the Vogue brand and nothing to do with fashion? I guess the prestige of Vogue still draws national advertisers and investors, and that may just be the point to the existence of Vogue Philippines.
Production-wise, this is their visually strongest issue since the inaugural one.
