Some solid stories that easily put Anna’s and Edward’s pandering laziness to utter shame: “The Dreamer” possesses that urban neon nightlight that’s such a signature of the underbellies of many Asian cities. You can smell the street vendors’ offerings with this simple and still intoxicating story; “Checkmate” has an eye for graphic design and styling that’s simple but sharp; and “Painted Poetry” is that whiff of old-fashion glamour that adds an instant tinge of vintage, bookending a nice conclusion to the urban gaudiness of “The Dreamer”. But my fav is the very simple "In Vogue" feature that harkens back to the 1960s-Taiwan movie starlets-- seeped in mood of a very specific time. These stories prove that you don’t need gimmicks/superstars/gimmicky superstars to produce high fashion.
Shame that the art direction is so dreadful and drowns the imagery more than it elevates them.
