What to wear to your own wedding

i want a dark purple wedding dress...maybe a swing or 50's style party dress.

i love the nina ricci kaki...it is so beautiful and dramatic in a subtle way..

if i can be honest i have to say i'm not too fond of either of the marchesa dresses. the first is very 'prom' looking to me, and the second, while pretty, actually looks more like a bridesmaid dress than a wedding gown, no?. i think it might be the length that's doing that. :flower:

Do we have a thread dedicated to bridesmaid dresses? The reason I ask is I'm struggling to find dresses for my four bridesmaids.. Thanks

There is, but there's not much there right now :p You'll see what I mean ... http://www.thefashionspot.com/forums/f58/what-wear-when-you-re-bridesmaid-28368.html

For my sister's wedding we wore beautiful raw silk Watters & Watters dresses ... www.watters.com

I noticed when Googling the information that they alter to fit pregnant brides or bridesmaids ... good to know ;)

adorefaith, I love your friend's dress! Is it vintage? Also, does she by any chance have a link to any other pics of her wedding? I bet it was beautiful.

My dress is Vera Wang, but it isn't big and poufy. When I was purchasing it, another woman shopping there asked me if my family would be upset that I wasn't buying a non traditional dress. It deflated me a bit at first, because I think deep down my family is old fashioned and expect the big princess dress. So I haven't shown anyone the dress, but I love it and I don't care if they like it or not! It is cut on the bias and ivory silk chiffon, 1930's style.

As for bridesmaid dresses, we had a hard time with that too. I chose to go against the non-traditional route and found a dress in a regular retail store.

I'm not sure if I would recommend this to anyone though. Since retail stores are seasonal, vs wedding shops that keep the same style for a long time, you run the risk of the store selling out. Even Jcrew, who has a big bridal line now, messed up my friend's order of bridesmaid dresses and couldn't locate all the sizes she needed because they sold out so fast.

this is my dream dress:

but i believe its from 2006. are "old" dresses still available to purchase?

e-v-elina, I actually tried on either that dress or one very close to it. I love it because of the vintage feel, mine is cut similar

Your dress is splendid and you look stunning in it! You and your husband look like an adorable couple and the way you both are holding each other is so sweet! :flower:

thanks dreams!. no, it wasnt vintage :flower: she does have a few more pics online but she's very reserved and i dont think she would feel very comfortable with me sharing the link. to be honest, i was quite hesitant about posting the original pic, but i think chopping her head out of the picture was the right thing to do. :p sorry though, i would love to share... it was all very beautiful.

aquamarina...your dress is absolutely gorgeous!!
and i love the way you wore your hair...

Thank you all!!!! I love my dress. It was the dress of my dream. Before wedding I saw amazing grecian-style dress Emmanuel Ungaro. I want to buy it, but after I saw This, and felt in love!

ok the silver dress came and I did not like the fit/style on me

though I had ordered another dress that also came in the package to wear to other events for the occasion; I fell for that one instead and ordered more material to get it lengthened into a full length dress so I will end up in ivory after all but I will get my black accents without having too much black. Now to find a good dress designer/seamstress in DC who can handle the task of lengthening it and possibly making it detachable so I can wear the dress long or short as the whole goal was a cross-functional dress that can be used for more than just one day.

My colors are fuschia, black and white so I am considering these pink Manolos for a pop of color but not sure yet...may go with one of these black CLs. I already own all the shoes but I'll be able to tell better when the dress is remade.

here are the custom invites just to see how it all ties together with the black lace....I decided to veto the feathers as the fiance thought they were a bit too over the top but hey that is me! and it is being held at Lake Las Vegas Resort so it fits but oh well, I may sprinkle pink rose petals in the boxes instead

BLL- the colors are perfect for you! love it! i agree the feathers are a bit over the top, but since they will only peek from under the dress (in the event you get it lengthened), i think they would look fantastic. just an edge, you know.

I'd love to see a woman getting married in any of these Balmain dresses..they're so perfect for a wedding on the beach..:crush:

Thanks for the advice everyone...see you ladies get it! My mom didnt like the pink shoes but she still lines her lips in black pencil and thinks she is still in the 70s so why am listening to her!...I'm doing the pink Manolos! Anything different and nontraditional I am all for!

On vetoing the feathers TheSiren...I meant vetoing the ones in the invite box. There are black feathers with sparkles in the box with the invites (one prior version had fuschia feathers). The fiance was not feeling the feathers in the box. So I think I am doing pink rose petals in the box instead.

Thanks again for the style tips ladies!
