What to wear to your own wedding

Men's suits can lose sleeves. Wedding gowns can attach veils.

Only the beautiful could wear such a veil that you refer to.
Now if you want some short 'Visor' veils see wedding-veil.com/short-veil.

Don't you wonder if the menswear designers can take off the sleeves of a suit, we could attach the veil to the wedding wear gown.

We have gone beyond using the veil to hid the impostor bride that is mentioned in Genesis.
Orangecountyweddingplan.com/weddingveil tells this Genesis story:

"The origin of the Wedding Veil lies before Christianity or the advent of Islam since it is mentioned in Genesis when Jacob was tricked by his father-in-law Laban into marrying the older Leah in place of Rachel, his true love, due to him being unable to identify his bride until the veil was lifted after the wedding. This resulted in Jacob marrying both women, an outcome that would not be possible today.

The veil has been used in many cultures, even that of ancient Rome. In Jewish weddings to this day, the experience of Jacob can no longer be the fate of the unwary groom since he now lowers the Wedding Veil only just before the ceremony begins, and then lifts it before the kiss, traditionally to make sure that he does not suffer the fate of Jacob."

Someone told me that in greek culture it is traditional for both the bride and the groom to wear a veil on their wedding day.. can someone confirm or put that to rest?

During the Greek wedding ceremony both bride and groom wear a crown form of a veil

Very interesting, Hanne, you do propose new directions for the veil.
You were right. Among Greek wedding traditions from buzzle.com/articles/greek-wedding-traditions:
"Wedding Crowns: During the wedding ceremony, the bride and groom are adorned with crowns. While doing so, the crowns are exchanged three times as a part of the Greek tradition. The wedding crowns represent glory and honor; usually crowns are white or orange in color, designed with blossoms and/or vines. These crowns are joined with a silver ribbon that symbolizes the union of the couple. The couple wear these crowns till the end of the marriage ceremony...
The bride also wears a yellow or red veil that signifies fire, so as to protect her from evil spirits." There are many cultural symbols for the wedding veil. Many are different from our current wedding wear.

The challenge is to have that symbol be a direct pictorial representation of our society. I believe it is time for the veil to be veil-less to be part of the gown itself. There are so many ways to do it. For example, a one-layer lace veil attached at the sleeve or strap could be lift up over the head during the ceremony. Then, afterward it could be draped over and across the bodice and secured with pearl buttons to form soft swags across the bodice or vertical pleats. I can just envision the grace with which such a gown could be worn. I hope we can keep dreaming up designs like this to shift direction away from the strapless down toward more elegant wedding wear.

While this is 'veil' less it is full of whimsy.

Vintage Celtic Wedding Cloak with Hood - Getting closer to Thread Goal

Image007_Standard.jpg

This is 'Kyla' from Lindsay Flemming's Celtic Spirit Collection. She specializes in vintage designs and won in 2006 and 2008 Scottish Bridal Designer of the Year at the Vows Awards. Finally, I am getting closer to the concept of this thread's goal.

Some very innovative stunning designs by Lindsay Flemming are at
http://www.lindsayfleming.com/roadshow.html

Please reply with images when you find a 'veil' less concept. Still learning myself how to copy images so the image appears not just a printout of the url address. We all love pictures. When on a website that has an image I would like to share, if you have a right click mouse click on 'view image' I then copy the image's [usually jpg] url and a direct image copies when I use tfs' copy image link.
Don't forget to do an advanced reply so you can get a notification when others post to this thread. It is exciting when you find designers who have what you have only conceptualized. And what is different is that I found this designer through a very unique modern site called rocknrollbride.http://www.rocknrollbride.com/ Innovators work both ends of the time spectrum.

Ohhh, in case anybody was following my purchase... I bought a very cheap Jessica McClintock dress off eBay last year for my wedding in June... I had my seamstress do a couple of minor things, and my mom made me a sash... here's an unprofessional photo of the final product (I'm still waiting for my wedding photos, and I've been so antsy to see them!):

suggestions for wedding dress please =)

Hi all
I'm getting married next dec, and I need advice from all you fashionistas =)

I'll be wearing 3 dresses in all. I have a vague idea of what I like for 2 of them but I'm pretty much open for the third.

For my main gown, I'm leaning towards
a traditional white gown which flares open at the waist ( am I describing it right? ),and with a train. I'm into details and am willing to spend up to US$6,000 on it.

for my 2 evening gowns,
I would love something red satin. I like the bottom full, but am very open to fitted bottoms too.

For my third gown, I'm open to anything.

Suggestions please all =)

And oh,
I'm 5ft 2, petite, medium fair skinned, dark brown hair and eyes.

i just got engaged but my wedding wont be for a while... i am considering a black/white gown or a black gown...totally non-traditional and a little bit dark & edgy...i would love a combo of the top of the first pic and the bottom of the second...
