Anybody know? Everybody seems to think its Green Day! BUT ITS NOT! I love Green Day...but, they did not write it, and they werent the first ones to sing it!

1950.

tony bennett. 1950.

also nat king cole has a famous version.

and art tatum too. and billy eckstine. & louie prima.

its also been covered by hanoi rocks. ian hunter. david cassidy. marianne faithful. brian setzer.

Id guess GD is covering either bennett, cole or hanoi rocks. or setzer.

Yeah, I would guess that Green Day heard the Hanoi Rocks version.

i don't care if they wrote it or not...their version rocks and so does the video...imo...

no...i just really like that song... and that video...
i don't own a single green day record...but i would buy this one...

yeah, i heard the tony bennett version...but the lyrics were kinda different (i think). I thought there could be an exact version.

i love green day, i think Billie Armstrong's voice is perfect for their rendition. its just friends at school and others have been raving how much they have matured in their writing and such.

Thanks for the info. lady_grey and AlexN :)

credits ??

if you own the green day cd, please post the writer's credits and I will further research it as I did previous versions of a song with that title.

as I say tony bennett made the best-known version but nat cole's is too and also rock versions by hanoi, ian hunter & setzer.

lady grey..do you know that you have a habit of repeating yourself???LOL
do you have short term memory loss?...
because you just said the same thing a little while ago...

it's not as if anyone forgot what you wrote...it's still written there in blk and wht...
no need for the double posting ...;)

oooh hurt me!!

actually Soft one, my NEW query is: DO YOU HAVE THE CD & PLEASE PROVIDE WRITERS CREDITS...???? that was NOT in my initial info!! should i have writers info I may know even MORE about said song.

were you not impresseed with my extensive discographic research naming bennett, cole, tatum, setzer, hunter, hanoi & cassidy as singers?

well Im off to eat dinner now, japanese I suppose unless that mediterranean place abducts me as they have so many times recently. Im awfully submissive for a cerebral sadist am i not...?? tra la la la la

it don't think i have to point out that it was the other part of your post that i was referring to...

you know...the REPETITIVE part...lol...

have a nice dinner...

I've done the research and I found the answer. In 1934, "Boulevard of Broken Dreams" was written by Al Dubin & Harry Warren. It was featured in the movie "Moulin Rouge" in 1934 and was sung by Jan Garber (# 6 in the music chart in 1934). This version of "Moulin Rouge" featured Constance Bennett. Also in the art world, there was a 1987 painting called "Boulevard of Broken Dreams" by Gottfried Helnwein which was a re-interpretation of the 1942 work of Edward Hopper's painting "Night Hawks". 'Nuff said.View attachment 483289

wow....certainly happy i missed this back then

but you're right the original song was written and produced for the original moulin rouge film and is a reference to hollywood blvd.

personally i prefer marianne faithfull's version...it was very weill-esque.

I didnt knew that BoBD wasnt originally from GD :o! I love their song anyways.

I'm not that big on Greenday, but I realize a lot of people love them. I prefer their mid 90s stuff to their American Idiot era though.

well the green day version is not really the exact song, only parts taken from the original. therein lies the difference.

this is the original and the lyrics are obviously very different to green day
