Wouter Peelen

Hailing from the Netherlands, Wouter Peelen (New York Model Management) started his modeling career back in January 2012 and has since then blew up in the fashion industry. He immediately booked jobs from top fashion houses, such as Trussardi, Z Zegna and Hermès. Wouter is currently featured in the fall winter 2012.13 campaign and lookbook of Hermès. With his unique, rugged and masculine look, Wouter is going to be a huge contender in the fashion industry, as there’s so many markets that are perfect for him. Indeed he is a force to be reckoned with and there’s no doubt that we’ll be seeing plenty of him soon.

Hi Wouter! How are you?
Hi! I’m fine! I’m just back from holiday in France

Can you tell us a little bit about yourself?
Yes, I’m a 25-year-old guy born and raised in the Netherlands (Amsterdam). I was (and still am) always interested in sports (especially soccer) and decided to study ‘Sport Management and Business’ at the Sports Academy in Amsterdam. A few months ago I graduated so now I’m ready to conquer the world as a model and maybe more

How were you discovered?
2 Years ago on a holiday my girlfriend told me to become a model. She made a picture and sent it to my agency in Holland. After that it went really fast for me. I feel really lucky with the way things are going and the cool jobs I already did.

What were you thoughts on modeling before you started?
I never thought to become a model, I’ve never given much attention to the fashion industry. My plan was to work in the sport business, for example at a big sport brand at the Marketing department or PR.

What were some of the feedbacks that you got when you first started modeling?
My agent has always told me to be myself and to have the confidence to stay like I am. Also my first job abroad was really helpful for me, I worked with photographer Philip Riches in London, they taught me how to work with my eyes during a shoot and told me a little bit about the fashion business.

Tell us three things that you like most about modeling?
First of all I like to work with different people, that’s the most important. I also like traveling and see different places.

What would you be doing if you weren’t modeling?
I would definitely work in the Sport business somewhere at a big sport brand or organization.

What’s your favorite and least favorite feature about yourself?
My favorite is that I’m always happy and helpful, my least favorite is that I sometimes talk too much and don’t listen carefully enough.

Describe a day in your life when you’re free.
Normally when I was back home I was studying. Now I graduated one month ago there’s more space to do some hobbies like sporting (biking, beach volleyball, soccer etc) and build and renovate my old bicycle and my old Volkswagen Beetle from 1965 :-)

Do you think it’s hard to work in the modeling industry, especially for male models? Would you say there’s a strong competition going on?
I thinks there’s always a strong competition and that makes it hard to work in this business. I don’t think it’s harder for male models then for the females. I think it’s the same. The most important thing in this industry is that you don’t take things personal. You get judged by your look, but that doesn’t mean they don’t like you as a person. Sometimes you just don’t fit the look for the brand or magazine, but there’s always another person who want to work with you. Sometimes models forget that and get disappointed, I think that’s the hardest part.

What are your other interests apart from modeling?
Like I told before my biggest passion is sport. I always try do to different sports at different places, it always gives me positive energy Besides that I like to sing, and drive in my old VW Beetle 1965! I also studied a little bit of dancing salsa, really cool :-)

Can you tell us something valuable to you that you’ve learned from working as a model?
I thinks that’s the part I mentioned above. Don’t take things personal but stay the way you are. If you walk into a casting and they don’t like your look, don’t get disappointed but think positive, there’s always someone waiting for you

Guilty pleasures?
Dark chocolate, I love it!

How would you describe your style? Have your style changed ever since you started modeling?
I think you can describe my style as ‘hang loose’. Not too dressed and always a little bit strong with denim and arm bracelets. I don’t think modeling changed my style, I’m happy the way I am right now

Where do you see yourself in 5 five years?
I have a few dreams, I hope I’m still in this business but also doing something with singing and performing. Maybe I end up in a movie, you’ll never know… I always allow myself to dream and set myself high goals. That gives me the spirit to give 100% in everything I do!

It's so great he got Trussardi again, he fits perfectly in those kind of campaigns.
