Xuan-Thu Nguyen

Some cute stuff here then there, but it's hardly making an impression on me.

Looks very raw, unfinished, sort of amateur work.

wow that stuff is lovely, especially the first lot.
I love the neutral tones.

Scott, you're very welcome :>
Nice photo--where is that from?

It's from projecta.com the Sputnik edition. It's a Dutch site I believe...there's a great Bernhard pettycoat and Lieve Van Gorp & Anna Heylen pieces in it as well.

I've met Thu, she's actually Dutch but of Vietnemese parentage. She's adorable. And yes, she's still designing; last year she opened up her own shop in Paris.

Here's her website: www.x-tn.nl

Awesome, droogist. How'd you get to meet her?
Glad to hear that she's still designing

^ Friends of mine do her PR in Paris. She lives there now; if you visit her store, chances are she'll be the one behind the counter, too ;)

you've done it again, cerfas..another collection i'm completely enamoured with.

i agree, evexa..the first group is amazing. the bunched and layered tops, all neutral colors.

completely amazing, thanks so much for posting!

like evexa and .francesca I absolutely adore the first group

oh..a quick question.. is she sold in europe or the us ? And what's the price range ?

thanks for this cerfas - i like a lot of the pieces - especially te floral ones.

Hanne there seems to be shop in paris - in the 4th - is that the Marais?

Thanks cerfas and droogist for information. It's so good to know there is an Vietnamse doing avant - garde fashion:-)

I think some of the works are in the mood of CdG, the pleats, the layers... I like the "paper" look there, the use of pale colours.... Sometimes there is "trying too hard" here and there, tho.

i really love this skirt..its incredibly romantic. i can see it functioning as a hood. i also also agree w/ ngth about the paper feel..esp. that grey dress i posted..it is pretty impractical, but its gorgeous. i love the strings hanging off the back..it has a very fragile tenderness to it. i wished so pushed that..and this skirt..her clothes look as if she has many ideas, but hasn't gone in one successful direction.

Agree that the first collection posted looks like a less-than-Tess Giberson. And the pants are too tight.

The second collection you posted looks great. I would love to see more.

Dunno,why....but now that you say she's Dutch droogist,I can actually see a slight Calvinistic approach in her work. Perhaps, not as cold as most, but definitely the austerity of it all resembles that kind of style. In fact, much of that first collection posted...it's got a similar vein as many of the Dutch designers working such as Saskia Van Drimmelen and Niels Klavers.

It's alright. Some of it is quite pleasant, but a lot of it seems kinda cliche to me.

You're welcome, francesca, helena, and nqth! Nqth yeah that one dress especially felt really trying to me--the one with the very rectangular pieces sticking out. And I too am very interested in seeing designers from different backgrounds--for some reason that is always exciting to me. Not just U.S., Japan, European designers. Culture is so diverse and dense and fashion can be a visual form of communication. So often when I see something by a designer of a highly underrepresented culture, I'm much more likely to be interested in looking at it, even if it's not perfect to me.

Hanne-I've no idea as to the price point. Perhaps droogist knows?

Scott, I agree 100%, her work is very Dutch. I even think the way she's evolved has been in a very Dutch way (from the earlier Niels Klavers-ish stuff to the Viktor & Rolf-ish stuff she's doing now.)

Hanne, unfortunately I can't remember her prices off the top of my head, but I don't recall being shocked by them...so, not cheap, but not too terrifying either?

::grins:: Miss travolta, I loved the very same skirt... It's a lovely take on the puffball. I hesitate to call the bit in back a bustle, but whatever it is, the construction is lovely. Love how the big swath of fabric looks just pinned at the sides -- reminds me of the oh so romantic Victorian dresses with swaths of fabrics pinned to a ring on your finger.

I'm not knowledgeable enough to label her stuff "raw, unfinished, sort of amateur" but I'd be happy to know the amateurs are out there in droves trying their hand at this sort of stuff. It's lovely when it all comes together perfectly like that skirt. Cheers Miss Nguyen and cerfas for the intro!
