the festival takes place in Hirosaki which is quite a long way from here.
it's his hometown. and now he is doing his recent project too there.
although I cannot go there, I'll post pics when I find them.
it seems that there will be a Nara-Nebuta contest during the festival.
people are making little floats from his paintings.
he wil be a judge there and his team is supposed to make one for reference.
apparently it willnot be the full-size one. maybe compact
I expect something like this.

I made a couple of Yoshitomo Nara mood icons for livejournal. Here are a couple of them:

wow i love his drawings. theyre so simple but so original and beautiful

one of my fave artists, discovered him in Paris through his books and postcard edition :crush:

(silly me, at the begining i thought he was a girl)

did he also dabble in ceramics (could be the obvious but i'm just really curious)? some artists have someone throw their clay for them and they just sculpt or mold them which makes it easier and i'm wondering if he has them as well? anyway, his work's fantastic. not unusual of most japanese art but what i like about them is the contrast between their cartoony feel and the seriousness of the process and his medium (and sometimes, the philosopical elements as well ... i.e. "where is my childhood?" written right below a very comical looking girl). the worn out effect is so appealing as well. i especially like those white dog sculptures and the illustrations on the first page are always pleasant to look at.

I have the same postcard set as .francesca's telling about in post #5. (I could scan them if anyone would like to see?) I like what I've seem of him, his line/style is cute!
