Great idea!

I'd choose a lot of older songs. I hate designers that just plug whatever's trendy or their musician friend wrote.

this is what I got from my itunes list. It's too daunting to make a coherent one-show soundtrack so these are all presumably for different shows:

Psycho Killer -- Talking Heads
Only Shallow -- My Bloody Valentine
Wandering Star -- Portishead
I Want Her She Wants Me -- The Zombies
Steppin' Out -- Joe Jackson
Velouria -- The Pixies
I Saw Her Standing There -- Beatles (for bright, retro clothes)
Atomic -- Blondie
I'm Deranged -- David Bowie
Lost Control -- Joy Division (for more experimental clothes)
Why Can't I Touch It? -- The Buzzcocks
Marquee Moon -- Television (paying homage to my username ^_^)
Borderline -- Madonna (probably my favorite Madonna song )
Stars -- Dubstar
White Light, White Heat -- The Velvet Underground
Mrs. Brown You've Got a Lovely Daughter -- Herman's Hermits (again for the retro look)
Baby Britain -- Elliott Smith

Softer music:
Pale Blue Eyes -- The Velvet Underground (soft, slightly tropical clothes)
Pink Moon -- Nick Drake (too bad I'll always associate it with that Volkswagen ad)
Fade Into You -- Mazzy Star

this category's harder. :(

SWEET choices ^_^ Totally agree

Shake break Bounce by the chemical brothers
Hollywood reinvention tour remix madonna
God is God remix natacha atlas

my fave is the versace simian mobile disco theme sleep deprivation and then chanel 06 i think spring and the one with gainsbourg!

stacey q- two of hearts
john rocca- move
cindy lauper- girls just wanna have fun
simply red- fairground
michael jackson- stranger in moscow
tomcraft-overdose

How long is the music supposed to be, circa 20 minutes? In that case I say Ravel's Bolero, ends the show in a big bang!

I think it's pretty cool that Hana_N suggested to use this song for her "runway soundtrack" a few years ago, and then it being used for Marc Jacobs' s/s 08 show for real. B)

Looks like Marc Jacobs stole your idea for his SS 08 show!

Anyway...I love this thread! Whenever I design something, I always imagine the runway music, and that usually determines the mood of the collection for me. Runway music is so important to me and if the soundtrack of a show sucks, the whole presentation, to me, goes down the drain!

Here are some of mine that go along with certain collection themes I have designed with in mind.

Western (loose, dusty pant suits, natural, windblown hair, sunkissed faces, dirt runway, etc)
Instrumentals of Don't Tell Me by Madonna
intermixed with segments from Aaron Copland's Rodeo
intermixed with segments from Kings of the Wild Frontier by Adam and the Ants
Final walk out: Paper Planes by M.I.A.

Civil War Era (union general coats/ jackets with elaborate passimenterie detailing paired with oversized knit scarves, rosy cheeks, center parted hair pulled back in buns at the nape of the neck, snowy runway, etc)
The Man of Metropolis Steal Our Hearts by Sufjan Stevens
Excerpts from the "Little Women" soundtrack
Civil War battle drums
Final Walk out: Battle Hymn of the Republic

Sound of Music (all the outfits made from the same green/ creme curtain fabric used in the movie, girly silhouettes, leather accents, etc)
Wind it Up by Gwen Stefani mixed with more vocals and instrumentals of The Lonely Goatherd from "The Sound of Music"

I thought I had so many, but I can't think of them now!:lol:

BTW, Spike, I loved your choices...they reminded me of Tom Ford's runway tracks! So glamorous!

These are great! maybe somebody should make these and then upload them! make into a sort of archive

^^That'd be so much fun!

I also love redoing existing runway soundtracks if I don't like the original! For example...I didn't like the Christina Aguilera soundtrack for Dior RTW SS 07, so I when I watch the video, I mute the video and have other music playing on iTunes...for Dior RTW SS 07, I listen to it with variuos song by Chanticleer as I feel the medieval/ renaissance chamber music fits the theme much better!

Guys! I am in such a bind! I am in charge of two of the eleven scenes in my college fashion show, and one of the scenes is a modern interpretation of Marie Antoinette, but the music I was going to use was too heavy (sad) for this scene. I am looking for really good, full of energy, playful music for this scene if any one can help me?

^^I might be cliche, but you could use "I Want Candy" from the Marie Antoinette movie.

Otherwise, "Lord Leopard" by Caribou might be good....it always reminds me of a harpsichord playing (which would incorporate the Marie Antoinette aspect of the show), but it's very modern. It's got a good pace, too. It's not wildly fast, but it seems like a good runway walking speed.

If you wanted something a little more period sounding, "Pray! Observe the Magnanimity" from Pirates of Penzance is really fun song, extremely playful, light opera piece and it always makes me smile.

Both songs are on the shorter side (under 2 minutes), but could easily be remixed to be extended.

Introduction

Shake Break Bounce - The chemical brothers - Mariacarla Boscono

Ready to UFF - Uffie - vlada roslyakova

Middle

Get Naked - Danja + Britney spears - Jessica Stam

CSS - Alala - Agyness Dean

Finale:ninja:

Bachlorette - Bjork - Snejana Onopka

Flashing Lights - Irina lazareanu

This is a fun topic idea especially since the control freak in me would love to pick the music for a show...or for stores that play terrible music.
If the show has a 1960's/1970's "band-aide" theme:
The Rolling Stones from the 1960s
Bob Dylan (same era) but it would most likely be songs from when he went electric
The Velvet Underground-The Gift or Sister Ray
David Bowie
For a show with romantic pretty (maybe whimsical too)clothes:
Bat For Lashes-The Wizard
Air
Goldfrapp-from Felt Mountain and/or Seventh Tree
Joanna Newsom
maybe Broadcast or Pram
