New York’s Prettiest Garden Gets a Little Prettier
vogueFilled with lilacs, azaleas, tulips, and cherry blossoms, the Brooklyn Botanic Garden might just be the quintessential oasis for New York City residents. And for its more fashion-focused denizens, the fragrant sanctuary also happens to be a stellar location for a photo shoot, as discovered by model-photographer Louise Parker, who recently used the verdant location as a backdrop to shoot fellow model Yuka Mannami.
Mannami wore a mix of her own vintage clothing (sourced on trips to cities like Milan and Japan) to spend the day wandering through the Tropical Pavilion, Lily Pool Terrace, and Daffodil Hill, where, happily, it seems that florals never go out of style. “I love that the color palettes and floral patterns on my dresses match the botanical spring theme of this shoot,” says Mannami, and though it was a first visit to the Brooklyn Botanic Garden for both her and Parker, the environment was familiar. “The cherry blossoms remind me of Kyoto, where I used to watch sakura petals dance and move with the wind while having a nice picnic with my family in springtime,” says Mannami. A return visit might be in the cards, only this time, without cameras: “I’d love to go back with my loved ones since it’s such a relaxing and beautiful place.” And what better way to kick off spring?
