Yuki Hayashi’s first foray into makeup was with his mother’s cosmetics. From an early age, he was passionate about creative outputs such as drawing and painting, giving hints to his later calling in life. He began his beauty career as a hairdresser at the age of 20, working in a salon where he had the opportunity to participate in editorial shoots for Japanese fashion and beauty magazines. As was common in Japan, Hayashi was talented with both hairstyling and make-up artistry, however decided to focus solely on his make-up expertise when he moved to New York in 2011.
Hayashi was quick to become first assistant to beauty legend Pat McGrath, a five-year experience he credits for developing his talent and techniques, as well as his understanding of fashion imagery creation. Under her wing, Hayashi’s abilities have passed the ultimate test of international runways and sets of the most renowned photographers.
Now working independently, Hayashi has since established a reputation for his authentic and playful approach to beauty. He achieves incredibly polished baby skin, and is bold with his use of colours, imbuing each look with a sense of refinement and a modern twist. Contemporary art, online media and fashion’s most avant-garde designers inspire Hayashi.
