Zendaya Took the Extreme Silhouette of the Season for a Spin in Paris
For the past few seasons now, Marc Jacobs has been pushing his proportions to the extreme. The New York–based designer has been sending out oversize, gargantuan coats on top of equally big gowns and full skirts. His new message, it seems, is go big or go home. And while that has been a fun runway spectacle to behold, it had yet to manifest on the streets—until now, that is. Yesterday, Zendaya hit Paris Fashion Week and dared to wear one of Jacobs’s larger-than-life looks from his Fall 2019 collection, which was shown only earlier this month.
Styled by her right-hand man Law Roach, the actress was spotted in a boxy Marc Jacobs double-breasted coat, the sleeves extending well beyond her hands. To offset her outerwear’s extreme silhouette, she wore a softer, pleated satin skirt underneath—as shown on the catwalk—and finished off the look with a crisp white button-up shirt. For that signature cool girl finish, she then accessorized with chic pointy white pumps and a black beanie hat for added warmth.
Did Zendaya pull off the monster-sized tailoring? The answer is yes. At 5’10”, her height may have helped her case, but most of her success lies in self-confidence. Her expressions says, This big ol thing? It’s just an everyday coat! Plus, given the fact that it’s still winter, a few extra inches of material isn’t a bad idea, either.
