White/yellow gold and platinum

One of my fav actresses and style icons Gwyneth Paltrow mixes her jewelry. She has a platinum/diamond engagement ring, a gold wedding band, She's been wearing gold bangles and in a more recent pic wears what looks like a white gold or platinum and diamond circle pendant necklace. I was under the impression mixing metals was a faux pas, am I wrong or has Gwyn set a new trend again?
