Mermaid to Order

Those overstuffed Pirates of the Caribbean movies—so fun! so profitable! so confusing!—have had just about everything one could hope for in a pirate picture. They’ve given us damsels in distress, rum, flying cannonballs, rotten teeth, plenty of swashbuckling, and oh, yes, Davy Jones’s locker. Through a rather strange omission, however, they have been bereft of on-screen mermaids, a sorry state of affairs to be remedied with the fourth installment in the Disney franchise, this summer’s sure-thing blockbuster Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides. Wearing the long, scaly fish tail is one Àstrid Bergès-Frisbey, a 24-year-old Spanish-French beauty who has already acquitted herself, both as silver-screen ingénue and as an actor of distinction, in films out of La France (La Première Étoile) and España (Bruc: La Llegenda). Disney has been tight-lipped concerning anything but major plot details from On Stranger Tides (not that anyone can keep track of what’s happening in these wonderfully mad movies), but we do know that the name of Àstrid’s character is Syrena. So let’s make an educated guess that she will send out a siren song to Johnny Depp’s Captain Jack Sparrow—which he must resist, if he cares a jot for his own life. After all, the mermaids of lore are not mere bimbos of the sea, but lusty, intelligent, fearsome creatures, with hidden fangs, who feed on men. Watch out, Captain Jack! And you readers out there must watch out for the lovely Mademoiselle Bergès-Frisbey, whose movie life has only just begun.

i love that white dress she wore in the Vanity Fair shoot! I wish someone would wear that to a big event, like the Oscars. What an awesome dress!

^yes, she has !

I really like this girl.
She seems to be the only upcoming good french actress whose parents aren't in the business/ or rich/ or have connections.
That makes me like her even more!!! I hope we'll get to see more and more of her !

She looks gorgeous as a mermaid. I hope good things keep rolling her way.

With this new movie she's going to be everywhere!
