1909-2002 Pauline Trigère

1960s Pauline Trigere Blue Tweed Scarf Coat

trigereblue.jpg

A vintage Trigere coat is a lot like an Hermes bag - it will remain part of your working wardrobe much longer than other pieces because it is so beautifully made, so thoughtfully designed. This was a woman who wore her own clothing, which is obvious down to the very buttons. And it's not like Trigere wore certain things that were of a much higher quality than she expected her customers to wear - there was none of that sort of hypocrisy about her work. Her collections were limited so she would never have to delegate too much control. This enabled her to have a hand in everything that bore her name. A royal blue, white, dove grey and rust tweed that is patterned with diagonal stripes. Marked by one of her many well-known touches, the attached scarf is joined to the coat at the back of the neck, forming a little V at the nape before it wraps over each shoulder for you to let hang, toss, tie or twist. Dome shaped walnut wood buttons still have their gorgeous natural burl and the coat is lined entirely in pale slate blue silk charmeuse, which feels absolutely unbelievable. So, talk about other designers skimping on fabric - which freuqently shows in a crappy lining, Trigere socks it to you where it's going to matter to YOU, much more than how it looks to everyone else - which also happens to be impressive. Inseam pockets at each hip are also lined in silk. Bust measures up to 40", shoulder to shoulder 16", outer sleeve 23.5" and total length 47". Ideally sized for a large modern 8 or small 10. Excellent, if not flawless, condition. $605.00

1970s Pauline Trigere Chalkstripe Cape

paulinebluecape.jpg

Not everyone can pull off a cape. Picture coming out of a 7-11 that's near a hospital and seeing those girls who wear teddy bear-printed scrubs all day walking around in Jimmy Choo boots and a Pauline Trigere cape. Not that any of them don't but it's certainly not the majority. A cape is for the type of girl who is personal assistant to Sally Hirshberger and runs out for coffee in stiletto heels. A navy blue and white chalkstripe wool and linen cape that buttons along the packet with mother of pearl buttons hiding under the attached skinny neck tie. Deep holes for your arms to poke through (handbag display cannot be overlooked), this has great style and swing. Lined along the inside shoulder with navy silk crepe, this is 45" in length and will fit a modern 8 to small 12. Excellent condition. sold

1980s Pauline Trigere Oatmeal Coat with Scarf

trigerepaletweed.jpg
A pale coat is to winter fashion as champagne is to the palate between courses - a bracing refresher that makes everything seem new and fresh. The landscape dons itself in whites, greys and pale browns so why are you walking around in black all winter? Pauline Trigere's oatmeal tweed coat with matching scarf to wear over pastel cashmeres and pale Prada boots. Flecked with tiny bits of ocean blue and dove grey, the mix is just right that you won't have to worry about it showing every little speck of dust and dirt as you might with other light-colored coats. Raglan sleeves and a banded neckline, there are three square pewter-glzed ceramic buttons high on the bodice and patch pockets on either side of the placket. Inseam pockets down at both hips as well, the hem flares and the waist gently shaped to add subtle curves. Lined in champagne satin - Trigere used the most luxurious silks always - the shoulders are currently shaped with pads but the silhouette might be softer on certain women if the pads were taken out by a professional. Bust measures up to 40", shoulder to shoulder 16, outer sleeve 24", length 42". Scarf measures 11" by 88". Excellent condition. sold

1970s Pauline Trigere Dress Suit with Black Fox

trigerefur.jpg

Different fashion houses are known for different things; some make their name on avant garde design, some on hype and some on pure luxury. While Pauline Trigere was much too much down to Earth to allow herself to be touted as the snooty luxury type, she was by far one of the few designers who consistently used the most spectacular fabric. You will not find Trigere dresses in double-knit polyester or plastic coats ever. And while her designs are beautiful to look at, they could almost be a blind woman's dream come true because they would meet and exceed anyone's expectations for what good fabric is. A spectacular black wool and cashmere flannel dress with princess seams and split sleeves hemmed in lush black fox. With that, a matching cropped jacket with turnback cuffs and another stroke of black fox fur. Gently curved though the waist for shape, the weight of the fur holds the smooth, long lines. Jacket fastens at the neck with one tiny covered button and both pieces are lined entirely in black silk crepe de chine. Bust measures 36", shoulder to shoulder 15", waist 30", hips 38" and length 36". Jacket has a 21" outer sleeve and is 16" long. Both pieces are in excellent condition. $685.00

A geometric freestyle line pattern covers the dress and matching coat/vest. The dress has chiffon sleeves with the matching pattern extracted from the fabric, and appliqued over them. Sleeves button at the wrist. Dress has another applique on the chest. A beautiful original design from the recently deceased designer. Little known fact: Miss Trigere employed members of the same family through several generations to benefit from the consistency in the work. Her detailed trims and precision designs, combined with the love of graphic pattern and exquisite workmanship, produced decades of extraordinary fashion.

c. 1960s. Wool knit Kelly green dress from Pauline Trigere fully lined in green China silk. Mock turtleneck and long narrow sleeves. The dress is slightly nipped in at the waistline. Center-back-zipper. I found three tiny brownish spots on the dress. Trigere's combination of French elegance and American practicality proved successful. Her constant commitment to excellent design and workmanship kept her in business for 60 years.

I love the way she handled the zipper! B)

C. 1950s Wonderful black wool-ribbed-dress from Pauline Trigere with original matching belt with mother-of-pearl belt buckle. Square neckline edged with black lace and fitted through the bodice. The back-zipper is offset, to the right, from center back and gently curves across the back bodice. The skirt is slightly belled with 2-inch wide pleats that are set right and left of center front and center back. The skirt is backed with black silk organza and lined with black slip-nylon. The black leather of the belt has split in a couple of places and I would try to have a cobbler replace the leather since her name is printed on the backside of the belt on the backing. There are little slit pockets hidden with in the folds from the pleats.

1960's PAULINE TRIGERE Black Wool Fitted Wiggle Dress with Dazzling Rhinestone Cuffs and Hemline!I'm sure you know... some designer dresses are just not all that terrific... you know, like the designer had a bad day. HOWEVER... then there are the days when that designer had an epiphany or divine intervention and created a masterpiece of design, materials and construction. No question, this is a dress from one of those "good days"! Black wool crepe fitted dress with wide low "v" neck front and even lower at back, and very, very tight sleeves with zippers on cuffs. OK.. that's just a simple basic dress, however it's the additional of the dazzling, sparkly rhinestones at cuffs (they look like bracelets on!) and the same wide rhinestone layer under the hemline... like a rhinestone slip peeking out! Awesome looking.

1970's PAULINE TRIGERE Black Wool Coat with Large Fox Tails Trim! Are you totally bored with all the winter coats you've seen in the stores and on your friends? And you really don't want a complete fur coat - just too much for your area or your taste? Well... how about a great combination??? Classic black wool coat with interesting tailoring - what else would you expect from Pauline Trigere - but then she added a medium sized black fox collar and then... 8 good sized black fox tails that are attached only at the tops, so they move a bit as you move. Gives that old world Hollywood look in a modern-feel coat. Measures: up to 45" bust! 48" long from shoulder to hem. Love the slightly puffed shoulders which is so modern today!
