1960s Pauline Trigere Blue Tweed Scarf Coat
A vintage Trigere coat is a lot like an Hermes bag - it will remain part of your working wardrobe much longer than other pieces because it is so beautifully made, so thoughtfully designed. This was a woman who wore her own clothing, which is obvious down to the very buttons. And it's not like Trigere wore certain things that were of a much higher quality than she expected her customers to wear - there was none of that sort of hypocrisy about her work. Her collections were limited so she would never have to delegate too much control. This enabled her to have a hand in everything that bore her name. A royal blue, white, dove grey and rust tweed that is patterned with diagonal stripes. Marked by one of her many well-known touches, the attached scarf is joined to the coat at the back of the neck, forming a little V at the nape before it wraps over each shoulder for you to let hang, toss, tie or twist. Dome shaped walnut wood buttons still have their gorgeous natural burl and the coat is lined entirely in pale slate blue silk charmeuse, which feels absolutely unbelievable. So, talk about other designers skimping on fabric - which freuqently shows in a crappy lining, Trigere socks it to you where it's going to matter to YOU, much more than how it looks to everyone else - which also happens to be impressive. Inseam pockets at each hip are also lined in silk. Bust measures up to 40", shoulder to shoulder 16", outer sleeve 23.5" and total length 47". Ideally sized for a large modern 8 or small 10. Excellent, if not flawless, condition. $605.00
