1930s Actresses

Mae West..I chose these pics (from bombshell.com) for how I associate it w/ fashion..

In the first pic, the costume was designed by Elsa Schiaparelli..this outfit had to be produced in black & sent back & forth from Hollywood to Schiap's studio in Paris, in order to accomodate to Mae's weight-gain..

In the second pic, I HAD a version of it w/ her standing up, but in this pic, you could see the applique work strategically positioned over the genitalia, so as to mask the nipples & vagina..It also had a fur trim..Even though the pic is from the 30's, it wouldnt seem out of place if that same outfit was shown in a couture show, say, from Gaultier or Galliano/Dior..(actually, Gaultier did do a similar trompe l'oeil piece for RTW, a sequined catsuit modelled by Naomi)..

Love Mae!

Awhile back I had come across this photo of Mae, and am finally getting around to posting it when I realized it looks very familiar to the one you posted, eugenius. If you look at the shoulder, it's even the same pattern of lace...perhaps they darkened up the rest of her dress to comply with some morality code?

This is my alltime favourite, Ansa Ikonen:

Robert Taylor....the darkly lit one was shot by Hurrell in 1937 and the one with the polka dot ascot was shot by Hurrell in 1939.

Tyrone Power....(I think he looks very similar to George Clooney in the one where he's not smiling)...the one where he is smiling is from 1939.
