Eleanore Whitney...
There wasn't a bio on imdb.com, but I found this on an eBay auction with a photo..

Beginning with Millions in the Air in 1935, Eleanore Whitney was a lively presence in Paramount college musicals of the 1930s, almost always paired with the fresh-faced Johnny Downs, brunette Eleanore Whitney was said to have been taught tap dancing by no less an expert than Bill Robinson. On stage from the age of ten, she later toured vaudeville with singer Rae Samuels and became known as the world's fastest tap dancer. By no means a threat to Eleanor Powell, Whitney left films in 1938 to marry. Surprisingly, she returned to the Broadway stage in 1946, opposite Bobby Clark in Moliere's The Would-Be Gentleman.

Lotus Long...

Born of a father of Japanese ancestry and a mother of Hawaiian ancestry, she came to California in the 1920s and, because of her exotic beauty, portrayed many Asian women. She took the stage name "Lotus Long" (her birthname was Lotus Pearl Shibata), and was generally assumed to be Chinese - something she later relied on to avoid internment with others of Japanese ancestry during WWII.

She met her husband, cameraman Jimmy Knott, while in the Arctic with W.S. Van **** filming "Eskimo" (1933) in the early 1930s. They soon married. They lived 40 years on Beverly Glenn, near Westwood Village in Los Angeles before moving to Orange county.

Bio from imdb.com; The two headshots were by Hurrell in 1933; the other two were from her 1935 film "Last of the Pagans".

:woot: More actors :crush: of the 1930's!! :D

First up is Douglas Fairbanks, Jr. His father was the successful actor Douglas Fairbanks, so Jr's career actually started rather early with an uncredited role in a 1916 film. He also had role in the 1920's, but his peak came after marrying Lucille Le Sueur (i.e., Joan Crawford) in 1929 (they divorced in 1933). While is peak came during the 1930's, he continued acting even through the 1980's! He passed away in 2000.

Here are some photos of him from the 1930's - closeup with statue on left was shot by Hurrell in 1933; darkly lit profile was also shot by Hurrell in 1933; in the white oxford shirt was shot by Hurrell in 1936; and in the trenchcoat was from 1932.

Wondering what Douglas Fairbanks Jr looked like a little younger, without the mustache?

In the suit is from 1924 (making him 14 or 15  ); white oxford in 1927; and the scene is from "The Barker" in 1928 with Dorothy Mackaill....

Next up is Johnny "Tarzan" Weissmuller....

Johnny Weissmuller was born Janos Weissmuller in Timisoara, Romania. A sickly child, he took up swimming on the advice of a doctor. He grew to be a 6' 3", 190-pound champion athlete - undefeated winner of five Olympic gold medals, 67 world and 52 national titles, holder of every freestyle record from 100 yards to the half-mile. Over his career, he starred in a dozen or so Tarzan movies and 16 "Jungle Jim" movies (even starring in the TV series of the same name).

The closeup is by Hurrell in 1932 and the one on the swing was shot by Clarence Sinclair Bull in 1933.

Next up is Franchot Tone, a classically trained actor with a very long career (1932-1938).
He is responsible for the establishment of the Best Supporting Actor/Actress categories in the Academy Awards, due to his supporting performance (and subsequent Best Actor nomination) in "Mutiny on the Bounty" (1935). He was also incidentally married to Joan Crawford from 1935-1939 (I was hoping I could do a "Married to Crawford" thread, but the rest of her husbands weren't major actors).

Tone with the older woman is from 1932; two pictures with the beautiful Loretta Young for 1933's "Midnight Mary"; also for "Midnight Mary" is the one with Tone, Andy Devine, and Martha Sleeper; the one with the fantastic shadows (and horizontal blinds) is a portrait shot by Hurrell; and finally, in the snazzy sportcoat, with Bette Davis for 1936's "Dangerous".

I found this almost-exact copy of the above photo of Brigitte Helm, or does Helm's photo copy this one of Evelyn Brent? Or complete coincidence, since one is German and the other is American?
