1930s Actresses

How could we forget Maureen O'Sullivan? Thanks for all the pictures above, they're really great! :flower:

I couldn't find the picture I really wanted, I saw it in Mia Farrow's memoir, and Maureen looked absolutely stunning... Oh well, when I do, I'll post it.

Thanks for bringing her to our attention, Browneyes!

Here's a few photos I found on eBay...The dog is "Junior", her toy fox terrier (photo taken 1933); the headshot is from 1932; and in the 'telephone operator' one, she's not making the best 'face', but her shoes are too cute!

A few more of Swanson....I guess these should have been in 1920's Actresses, as she really didn't do too much work in the 30's...

The one with the hat and parasol, and the above photo are from her film "Music in the Air"...the other one is from her 1931 film "Tonight or Never".

Photo of Russian actress Katya Sorina....on imdb, it just lists one uncredited role in 1931's "Behind Office Doors".

Barbara Stanwyck in the October 1939 issue of "Silver Screen" magazine...

More of Constance...both from 1933 (the one in the smokin' dress (while smoking) was shot by Hurrell)

I love Hurrell too! In the above Joan Bennett post, the two brunette ones (multi-strand pearl choker one and fur wrap one) were shot by Hurrell. I especially liked his work with Joan Crawford, Norma Shearer, and Jean Harlow.
Some Hurrell links: hurrellphotos.com , http://imdb.com/gallery/mptv/1152 , http://imdb.com/gallery/mptv/1153 , http://imdb.com/gallery/mptv/1154 , http://imdb.com/gallery/mptv/1155 , and http://imdb.com/gallery/mptv/1156
(Oh, and http://www.joancrawfordbest.com/images.htm has huge galleries of Joan Crawford photos, including large sections of Hurrell-shot photos)

Myrna Loy, shot by Hurrell in 1933

Helen Hayes, shot by Hurrell in 1931...Her career spanned over 80 years (she began as a child actress at the age of 5). She was regarded as the "First Lady of the American Theatre". She was the first person ever to win a Grammy, an Oscar, a Tony, and an Emmy in competitive categories. She won Oscars in 1932 and 1971, Tonys in 1947, 1958, and 1980 (the 1980 award being non-competitive), Emmys in 1953 and 1978, and a Grammy in 1976 for Best Spoken Word Recording. Barbra Streisand won the Grand Slam before Hayes, but Streisand's Tony (in 1970) was a non-competitive award for Star of the Decade.
