^ Gorgeous - and the shoes are simply divine! :woot:

Tiger-beaded sheath, circa 1994, couture labelled and size 40, the empire-line bodice adorned with strands of tiger-effect beading over tiger-printed silk, textural gold embroidery highlighted with topaz pastes and brilliants, with graduated black and gold beaded fringes, broad jewelled straps, the skirt a simple black silk jersey sheath.

Sometimes I really just have to go through this thread and look at his work and it's really sad that he's gone from the fashion world. He truly had a vision and I'm not sure that many designers have a solid unique vision anymore. After looking at this and the newer more "refined" collections that are getting so much praise at lately at Versace, Donatella's work doesn't even compare to gianni's.

I loved those Gianni prints...so endearing. Sure they look REALLY 80's/ 90's but...they still feel...I don't know...glamorous and lively...those aren't the right words, but...I love them.

I'd love Donatella to do a collection entirely with vintage Versace prints...I've always imagined those prints being worked really well into sophisticated, chic, easy suits and cocktail dresses. Those 3 or 4 dresses from the FW 08 collection were a great interpretation of the Versace prints.

If I could meet anyone from history it would be Gianni Versace. He's the ultimate master of glamour and colour to me. When he designed something he did it to the fullest, he always went all-out, never holding back. The results were exaggerated and excessive, and that's what makes him so genius.

You still see loads of his work being referenced in today's collections.

As much as I loved his style as a young, young boy (say, 12yo), I must say: as an adult who's pushing 30, as I look back through these pages, I can't help but think just how ugly & gawdy his clothes were..and how a good majority of it doesn't really stand the test of time.

I really admire Gianni and what he did for his era when he was alive. I must say that his bold style was not really flattering, but when he kept his designs simple, he really shone IMO.

What Donatella has done since 2007 has really refined the brand and she is doing a wonderful job with keeping the "new" Versace look young and modern.

I wonder if Gianni would be proud of what the Versace brand has become?......

^ I LOVE that collection, it's so Gianni. I love its dangerous simplicity.

what saddens me most about this collection is that i would have LOVED to see how he handled the trends of the late 90's. if this collection is any indication, i think somethings may have been different...
