72 Magazine Issue #1 Fall 2025 : Julia Roberts by Craig McDean

all the color they put into the text of the layout

needed to be a little on her face with a red lip or in the styling somehow, lift it lift it

i quite like this image actually… i think it’s considerably good if a bit boring, but oh goodness this font… i’m really giving the benefit of doubt and hoping it will change by the next issue

Admittedly, I do love the actual shot of Julia Roberts. The graphic design, however, is appalling and extremely amateur. Overall, the cover looks fan-made and as if generated on some random design program. I expected something far superior from Edward, in all honesty.

Honestly I wouldn't look twice if I saw this magazine on a newsstand. Looks like an airport catalogue.
Bingo. Exactly my first thought.

Very basic cover, although at least it looks mature unlike many of the Perfect covers. The font looks like a draft that didn't get highlighted and changed in Google Docs though, LOL.

It's been such a long time since I've enjoyed Edward's work, probably even before his W tenure. The SM 1960s portrait covers of UK Vogue could only go so far in lifting the spirit of his tenure and the inside content was pleasant but bland at best.

And now we have another new "project" from a former EIC, but this time with Dena Giannini and Poppy Kain as main fashion editors. Please...the world is in too much trouble now for trees to be cut down so those two can have their Claire's Accessories level styling published.

I'll get the popcorn and wait for the impending flop. Sorry Edward, but Julia Roberts and Piergiorgio Del Moro are not going to save you if you've half ***ed the rest of your team/just employed your mates.

Of course it's just a cover, but it looks to me like Edward is past his peak. In which reality would you go with something so basic as your first cover? Bearing in mind how congested this niche of seasonal magazines already is. Maybe he's going to Porter/Gentlewoman?
He understood that he needed Meisel as his trump card for UK Vogue, that proper storyboard features were needed for W. So why go with a generic film actress with a movie to promote? I don't know, maybe once I get more of an idea of what this magazine is about, it will make sense. I do like that one fashion preview. Some people are just born stylists, not editors.

I find it odd that you call Julia Roberts "a genetic film actress." She still excites the media as she is frequently in the media and is a very successful and respected film actress. She is obviously a favorite of Enninful's as are all the names listed on the left side of the cover. I mean model Jourdan Dunn and Oprah Winfrey are inside?

Your "The Cover Challage" covers are far superior in design than what is shown on this cover.

I love Julia Roberts and this styling suits her personal style. However, her gorgeous smile would have improved this cover. On the other hand, the graphic design, especially the color scheme, is very amateur.

When was Edward’s peak? I enjoyed his work from time to time, but at US Vogue he was outshined by so many (and The September Issue didn’t help). At W Magazine, I honestly don’t remember a single thing, and it’s the same with i-D (maybe a cover with Naomi...).

The only project that really stands out for me is the Vogue Italia Black Issue. I don’t want to undermine his work or accomplishments, but I’d place him on the same level as Katie Grand.

I would place Katie higher. She is an absolute clown these days but in her prime she was way above Edward both in terms of vision and influence.
I have to agree, even though I'm not a fan of Katie's recent work. Her prime work is still miles ahead of Edward's. Even now her magazine could do laps around this as painful as that is for me to give it credit. In his prime and even now, he’s been more of a stylist focused on complete looks, rather than someone who can mix pieces from different brands to create something unique. If you've ever been on set with him, you’d notice he has 40 tables and racks filled with items in every color all for show, yet he only uses complete runway looks from just one rail, often from advertisers. It's quite obnoxious but on brand, especially since he makes his teams put in long hours, sometimes up to 24+ hours straight to get this all so his ego isn’t bruised only for him to not use the items and send everything back. Edward has always been a lot of filler but not much substance.

That's a shame....it is better two racks full with options rather than the circus of megaproductions...

honestly i've enjoyed some of his W work and some less of his Vogue UK work (ex: Gisele by Meisel )

Anyway, yes Kstie is higher than Edward and this magazine is not looking very promising...and to charge 20 dollars? mm boy you must deliver something good..
