It's a fun collection. A.F. has only recently been on my radar.

What should I say?... When you take away the catwalk styling, the clothes are absolutely wearable.

I'm not a big fan of the messiness. I realise that it's probably what they were aiming for but I just can't bring myself to like it.

they are always so true to their styles. they've taken their love of fatigues to a magical level this season.

i dunno if i agree so much though with the demeulemeester and ackermann references though.....an and fillip have actually had their own sort of brand of heavy draping skills when they started their collection way back in the late 90's....so it's actually been part of their repertoire.

Thanks for that, Scott!, I think the references are inevitable as Ackermann has suddenly gained more spotlight but he's by no means a pioneer of design, I can actually see references of Belgian designers in his work, not the other way around.

By the way, Heather's post got me thinking yesterday, do you happen to remember the name of this artist that's sometimes (or always?) involved in Junya Watanabe's headgear? I remember it was someone, that also worked with other Belgian designers and that seems to have done the pieces for this show.. I just can't even figure out if it was a man or a woman, or if I'm mixing him up with perhaps a hair stylist (I really don't think so though).

^katsuya kamo? he's a milliner and hair-stylist. not sure if he's ever worked with the belgians though. could be somebody else. there is belgian milliner elvis pompilio as well who works closely with many of the belgian designers. and of course the one and only christophe coppens.

btw,that's what i was thinking too about haider. i think it's easy to draw parallels when his name has become so prominent but people forget so many came before him. i think a lot of it is the school. they all took the same training and honed a lot of similar techniques so obviously there's going to be similar traits in skill. in fact bernhard is really great at draping too and that's where haider was assistant for a while.

Perhaps you're thinking about Katsuyo Kamo (who has his own thread here). He's done hair/make-up for Junya & Undercover..also for Fendi & Chanel (those paper flower hats for the HC)..But w/ other Belgian designers? That I don't know.

That's the man, thanks Scott! The flowers do remind me a little of Katsuya's headpieces for Chanel. I would love to know for sure, they're exquisite.

I love it when the Vandevorsts do military influenced clothes. It's prominent but not literal. And surely the hats are just beyond beautiful

How cool was the model's bowing to the audience at the end? Thanks for posting artmaniac. Drooling over the back draping! The scarf pieces looked even more amazing than I imagined up close and from behind. Definitely one of my favorites this season.
