well, how am i going to describe the Jeremy Scott show ( the very last one for Mercedez Benz 7th on sixth show this week, though there are some small shows held for the next week.) that took place in Tribeca Grand Hotel in NY. first of all, no one will expect to see gorgeous, wearable outfits from him, we expected spectacular entertainment, and we did. I admire the idea that J.Scott gathered all us attendees in the hotel lobby, where it felt like we were going to watch Super Bowl or All Star game. No actual runway, only a big screen in the front where all of us watched the "film" that was written and directed by Jeremy Scott himself.
At the first segment, Jeremy Scott also served as a Mary Hart type of Entertainment Tonight ( or should i say E! for the cheesy factor.) reporter interviewing stars from the red carpet. This was probably the first time we ever got to hear models did the talking during a fashion show. They were scripted to be either Nicole Kidman or Madonna or what have you, walking the red carpet on the award show when J.Scott asked them all those cheesy quesition/comment any E! people would ask, which was quite campy and sarcastic ( e.g. one model would say "mmm, this designer is like from Paris" and the other one would say "well, i starred in a film by Scott Spielberg), but due to Jeremy Scott's monotone voice and models' not-so-prefessional acting skill, this part turned so dull and boring, and the clothes, though never the spotlight, were still very typical Jeremy Scott, lots of gold lame, campy ugly sneaker heels and 50's inspired soap opera style matronly dresses. China Chow was there, she played herself on the red carpet, the moment when J.Scott interviewing China Chow, New York's Tribeca Grand Hotel couldn't be more Los Angeles.
I personally love the second/third part. The format was in authentic soap opera form, the lightning and the outfits were, however, so p*rno-inspired that was hilariously entertaining. Asia Gonego (sp.), Lisa Marie, China Chow and the quintessential LA campy queen Tori Spelling ( it was brilliant of Jeremy Scott to cast her in the film, so brilliant!) played your typical soap opera characters, catty, bitchy, dramatic and the clothes, shall i say, were perfect for Dynasty remake! Jeremy Scott successfully created the perfect combination of cheap B movie, p*rno, film noir, soap opera in such raw, kitschy yet totally sarcastic way that i found myself waking up from the previous boring red carpet part.
Amber Valetta played herself in a peudo-informercial segment where she demonstrated as your typical informercial host that by wearing Jeremy Scott couture, she no longer felt tired and depressed. The same red dress was featured in another infomercial where a bored housewife was awakened by a hunky ( yet very p*rno looking ) genie (sp) by donning the Jeremy Scott couture. both of man and woman looked so p*rno looking that i found myself being unable to stand straight, this was truly the longest fashion show ever ( approximately 45min or longer.) yet there were full house laughter during the show.
i personally think in this film Jeremy Scott successfully catches the spirit of what the city of LA represents, sex, Hollywood, money, media power, celebrity exposure, there is a fine between kitschy and bad taste, this time around i find myself secretly liking the kitschy entertainment that J.Scott failed to bring previously.
