TUCKING into their fried egg sandwiches in a greasy spoon café, they could have been any young couple recovering after a night on the tiles. In fact Henry Holland and his pal Agyness Deyn are two of the hottest rising stars of the global fashion scene. While the party they had stumbled out of - after sipping champagne alongside the likes of Kate Moss and Naomi Campbell - was one of the glitziest in New York.
Not that they took it too seriously. As Henry says, it's just one of the amazing things that's happened to the pals from Ramsbottom in the past year. Indeed, to them it's just like any other night out.
"At one point it was so surreal," he recalls. "There I was in the toilet having a cigar next to Kate Moss and Naomi Campbell, it was really weird.
"But before we went out it was just like we were on any normal night out - Aggy and I fighting over who is in front of the mirror first. Then the next morning we went out and had a fried egg sandwich. We don't try and live this weird celebrity life."
Not too long ago the best mates could easily have been tucking into that egg sandwich in Bailey's café in Ramsbottom, Lancashire, where Henry used to work. Or placing an order at Stubbins Chippy where Agyness earned her pocket money.
But how things have changed since then. Henry, 24, has gone from teashop waiter to t-shirt guru, founding his own fashion label House of Holland, which is now stocked in Harvey Nichols and Barneys.
While the elfin-featured Agyness, also 24, was this week named Model of the Year at the British Fashion Awards. Following a whirlwind 12 months which have seen her hailed as the natural successor to Kate Moss's supermodel crown.
Dubbed the "peroxide princess", after her short and sharp hairdo, she's the catwalk star of the year with her funky edge and streetwise style. Not to mention the face of Armani, Burberry and Mulberry.
Chatty, friendly, and with a reputation as a fun-loving party girl, she's been hailed as "The World's Most Mancunian Supermodel" by the fashion press. And it's a title she loves living up to - showing off her family and northern roots at any given opportunity.
Sashaying up the red carpet in a stunning Giles Deacon gown to collect her British Fashion Awards prize on Tuesday night, for instance, she had none of La Moss' steely reserve.
"It's my mum on the phone," she laughed, holding her mobile up to the microphone. "Yes, mum it's like a fashion Oscar. Here, have a word with everyone."
Henry, who accompanied her to the awards, couldn't be happier for his friend's rapid success. Pals since they were just 13, it was his sofa Agyness (born Laura Hollins) stayed on when she first moved to London.
Together, they have taken the fashion world by storm. He became renowned for his celebrity-inspired slogan t-shirts, with phrases such as "Buy Me Coleen". While she hit the big time for modelling them. But, he reckons, ever since they used to dress up together he knew she was going to be a big success.
"When me and Aggy were teenagers and really bored with nothing to do we used to go and find a department store," recalls Henry, who worked as a fashion journalist and stylist before setting up his own label. "We had this game where we both had to pick an outfit for each other from the most grotesque stuff we could find.
"Then we would parade out of the changing rooms and - whatever she wore - she always looked good. I couldn't make her look bad! She just makes an outfit look good."
Spotted at an early age, the young Agyness won the Face of Rossendale competition in 1999 but had her professional break after moving in with Henry. Since then she has appeared on catwalks around the world, although she still splits her time between New York and Rawtenstall, where she jets over to see her mum, health specialist Lorraine.
Whether she'll still fit those home visits into her ever-expanding schedule remains to be seen, with rumours she is about to star in fragrance TV commercials for Burberry and even create her own line for Topshop.
But, whatever dizzy heights she reaches, Henry says he can still remember the giddy excitement of those first few contacts.
"I'm really chuffed for her," he says. "I wasn't surprised when she made it, I always thought she could do it. I still remember the day she called me to say she'd got the Burberry contract.
"But when she rang to say she had a full page in Italian Vogue I nearly passed out.
"We still go out together and go on trips away. And, of course, she models in my fashion shows. She'd go mad if I used anyone else!"
