Alaïa W/S 2026 by Steven Meisel

Mind you, Meisel's been evolving and building on his style and work for nearly 50 years. At this point in time, that's 46 years of consistent work without a single season's break. I think the man has paid his dues. And he is to this day the only photographer with consistently incredible studio photography, he knows what he's doing and that's why he stays booked, regardless of how repetitive it may seem. This might just be a continuation of his great studio work, but I have no doubts that it will be a flawless one indeed.

And I think it's very important to note the general state of the world and fashion as it is. I think the soul he brings to even his most commercial work nowadays is precisely the life he breathes into all of his studio works, which has long been his specialty. You can't deny that he has a very particular sense of style, lighting and pose when it comes to studio. And that works.
I am a fan of his work and aware of his evolution and at time´s lack of it, he is human.

Like i said the issue lies with the creative direction and art director not doing anything different than a Zara ad by Meisel.

Meisel is a a gun for hire in this point much like at ZARA, but for high fashion your bring the best talents together to do something beyond.

Flawlessness great technical ability and signature are all great and valued but like i said, it does not absolve each produced work from critique when it lacks in this case of a distinctive story versus a Zara ad!!!!! that is focused on Meisel to give it a story, ok if it was an editorial on ALAIA but not as an AD for a brand that is short of 5 years trying to rebuild a new chapter post its founders passing.

Its empty!!! its the best way to describe this ad however fierce or flawless it might look on the surface.

Meisel's style isn't very original, as we see too much of Avedon or Penn reflected in the studio style, even in the lighting. I think in recent years Steven prefers to play it safe, and that's also noticeable in the editorials, which are all studio shots with the same lighting. The world is ruled by money, but he's a great artist; he should propose something more.

I agree but I’m afraid this is more about the state of fashion rather than himself. The lack of budget and time is not the environment for creativity

Because him and Baron built the identity you now identify and recognise as Zara. It's not Zara, it's Meisel.

No it's not lol. The only reason this looks remotely decent much like the Zara campaigns he's shot in the past is because of Fabien Baron, not him.

You can easily pick apart Meisel's autopilot slop without Fabien versus the ones with his direction in it. He really should stick to working with him because Fabien hard carries him. Whomp whomp :hardhead:

Snooze Fest
Baron and Meisel could've came harder

What a flawless campaign. Meisel and team at their most finest. The simple studio setup, the casting, the beauty styling, the posing - every element is just so flawlessly executed. Sheer perfection, in all honesty. Danielle Currie... what a striking beauty!

It's clear that things ran on auto-pilot at Alaia, as Pieter was getting ready to transition out for Versace.
Nothing in the last two seasons grabbed me, it felt like a contract end in a real way.

some images are soooooo striking but the other ones are so reminding of tons of other Meisel photos (portraits with the headthing), that they loose their impact.
still, a good campaign, even if...

The full orange outfit shot is amazing. But dumb clothes and bad poses lower the average of the campaign.

It's classic Meisel and it's visually very attractive. You can see everything is done down to the last detail. I agree with @vogue28 ; it's perfectly executed. My favorite shot is probably the one with Noor Khan and the black leather outfit.
